what is this pipe for?(420a)

hi i am recent eclipse rs owner. as in the photo(not my engine bay), there is blinded pipe goes down parallel to downpipe, what is it for?

That is the egr pipe, is most certainly is stock to the car. Lots of post's but no correct answers.

mine doesn't have that, what year is the car/block from?
my egr pipe is up higher directly to the right side of the manifold.mine is a 99.
reason I ask is because the early 420a had a few changes to the pcv system,which had vented from the block iirc.

It's not the egr pipe. The egr pipe and valve is just below the cam sensor.

Not sure what it is to be honest.

You are right, i was thinking of a different setup, that is for the secondary air setup which is likely used on california cars.

Mine is 95, first i thought previous owner cancelled out sth.
searched for engine bay pics but it is only visible in that pic.

Its the secondary air injection system. The secondary air injection system was only on early 95s and it was recalled.
