Buying turbo today. What is the differance between the EVO3 16G and the "Small" 16G? Going to order from DSMPARTS.com or Slowboy. Joe from Slowboy PM'd me and has a EVO3, and boost guage for a decent $. Anyone deal with either vender? Are they reputable?

How do they rate on a stock engine? No mods and nothing planned. I want reliability not GOBS of power.

Both are great on a stock engine and are reliable even on stock engine with moderate boost. I'd suggest the Evo 16g. If you ever have to sell it down the road it would be easier to sell since most people are looking for the Evo 16g and not the small 16g. This is the turbo that should of been installed in the Eclipse/Talon from the factory!

I'd do the Evo III 16G, as a matter of fact, I *am* going to do exactly that same turbo after a break in on a smaller turbo (13G - I already have it!).

Here's a link from RRE on the differences between the 16G's:

RRE's Eclipse Turbo Upgrades

As they say. it flows 550 rather than 505. Nice setup. I'm going for the whole shebang: Evo III exhaust manifold, turbo, and O2 housing. eventually emptying into a custom 3" exhaust all the way to the rear.

When I bought my Ply Turbo back in April, it had a JDM replacment motor put in. - a Galant RS 4G63 with Evo III 510 injectors's and a Big 16G turbo hanging on the front...

quote is right: no noticable lag, but gobs of power on the top end...being stock.

Couldn't agree more!

Either one will be a nice upgrade over stock.

Yea the FP deal is a good one there really good with support an if it breaks they will fix it for cheap. DSM an SBR don't fix there stuff. An have bad return problems. I bought a set of HKS cam gears an canceled the order 30 minuets after I placed it. Well 2 days latter they took the money out of my account an sent them. Then when I rejected them they charged me 45 buck for a restocking fee. As for SRB there engine are always bad from what I hear. I talked to 5 people that ordered engines from them. All the engines didn't hold compression an were covered in rust.

Just to point out something obvious, many are implying that spoolup time on the small 16G versus the evo 16G is crucial, when in fact, it is not. Do not let that decision hold you, they will both spool well below 3500rpm and the difference between the two will be MINIMAL.

That being said, same price, more power potential = buy the evo III 16G. It's a great little turbo that can do a whole lot of street duty.

does the fp evo3 is a real mhi ??

Make sure you read the information posted before asking. It only takes two seconds to realize that the information FP provided is that of a real MHI evo III16G. Even though FP makes their own turbos, this particular group buy is for a real MHI e316G, even though FP is organizing the group buy, it is not their own product.

I'm surprised that no one caught this. Please be aware that with an upgraded turbo, you'll be pushing a lot more air into the engine, and if you have no other fuel, tuning, or logging modifications, you may run into some issues that need to be addressed before damage occurs to your engine. In this day and age, it's all to easy for newbies to assume that all you need for more power is to just slap on a big turbo, crank the boost, and let the engine do the rest, but that's simply not the case.

PLEASE read the upgrade paths and make sure that you know what is NECESSARY to provide for that turbo in terms of logging capability, fuel tuning capability, fuel pump and injector requirements, etc. Maybe your stock injectors can keep up with your desired boost level, but maybe they can't. How are you going to know for sure? Is your car knocking from too high a boost level/intake temps? How do you know? How do you solve that problem? Is your car running an aggressive timing curve?

All said and done, if you want reliability, stick with a stock-size turbo: T25 or 14b. That's what the car was meant to have, and that's what's going to to provide the best reliability. If you want to upgrade, be prepared to upgrade everything you need to at the same time and not skimp on the little things that help keep your larger turbo happy.

Well, every vendor has had their share of mistakes and shipping problems. Quality control is important too, of course. I've had "a" problem with SBR in the past and didn't care for their response, but I overheard that they are trying to resolve some issues and I do have faith that they will provide a better product(s) and customer support in the future, if they aren't already. Its difficult to run a business these days, particularly in the performance realm, but as long as everyone remembers the "customer" I"m sure the business/comsumer relationships will continue to flourish in the future.

However, I have an EVOIII-16G and I'm pleased with it. I've used the s16g and big16g, but enjoy the EVO alot. It's adequate for my power needs and I have seen them hit the 11s, but not without the necessary "upgrade path" supporting mods.
