I am thinking of getting a used small 16g ported for $290, i am looking for low to mid 13's, thing is most people are using the big 16g or evo III.

Should i rather get one of these than the regular 16g?

the small 16g is the regular 16g. Big 16g came out afterwards thats why they call it Big 16g. But yea, theres a very little difference between the s16g and the b16g. Go with the small 16g since you got youself a killer deal.

I think the small 16g is superior to the big16g for sure. It has good efficiency, (I think peak is like 77%), and the big 16g peaks at 71%; that is the lowest peak efficiency I could find for any compressor on a website with lots of maps. I know someone that runs 20psi with race gas on the small 16g with NO KNOCK with the stock SMIC........can't say that I know someone doing that with a big 16g or an EVO turbo for that matter.

If this is to be used in conjunction with a front mount or water injection, the differences would probably be negligable. Go for the great deal!

You might want to check for shaft play on the turbo if you haven't already, for it is pretty apparent in used 16Gs and 20Gs.

With race gas no knock is possible on many limit-pushing setups. I wouldn't use this as an argument in favor of the S16G or of keeping the stock SMIC. I know someone getting the same results from a Evo 16G and stock SMIC.

hahaha when I came on this site it was the greatest thing since sliced bread... but now a days people all seem to like bigger turbos... so thats why its not as "greatly" talked about... But its a great turbo none a less and 13s is definitely doable with a s16g. So its not like its obsolete its just not as popular anymore. But fact still remains its a great turbo.

Actually, when i started I wanted a 16g but I decided recently I would go T3/T4 haha but as I come to discover its a LOT of money ^^;;; good luck and have fun and 200 something is a great deal.

My take on it is this. The Evo 16g feels like it pulls a little better on top end (butt dyno of course). I have also heard that some people have picked up a couple mph from switching to an EVO from the s/b16g's. For the price you mentioned I would def. get it. My friend ran a small 16g to 11.7 in the 1/4, so the potential is there.

Yes x 1000.

It will easily get you into the low 13's, if not high 12's ( slicks ). Before there was anything else, lots of people were running fast times on the small 16G. The small 16G has an excellent flow map and can deliver a good amount of power.

Also lots of people recommend buying a large turbo to aid in traction. Instead you should get the turbo you need and setup the suspension correctly.

Get some motor mount inserts, lower the front as much as possible ( and as little in the rear, to shift weight foreward for FWD ), tower brace and lower brace, and slicks would get you places alot sooner than a big turbo with a crappy setup.
