I would say that most DSMers are in the game of modifying because they can't afford more expensive cars. This isn't a show car discussion.

Insert LSDs are bad. Bad things break and generally have a bad design. Wives cars might be fine, but I never assume that someone treats a car with respect until I ride along with them. :thumb:

Also I looked at the phantom slips website and if you look at the instructions It says for best results you want a ground surface on the back of the spider gears and a .003-.005 thou tolernce!!!! Those are pretty hard numbers to hold even on a mill! and im a machinest!!!!

So thats the reason why they blow up on everyone...... If you have the
proper surface finish on your gears and that .003-.005 tol on the spring pack I bet it would work for a bit.......

Ohh a sheet of paper is .004..... So tell me how many have the ablilty, tools, equiptment and knowhow to get there dif pack to have no less than 1 sheet of paper and no more than 1.1 thick sheets of paper in thier diff.....And if thats not kept then no warrenty!!!

Funny spider gears are casting, and many castings are not made to that good of tol's cuz the face is ground so the back does not need to be nice.........

Sponsors are nice, yes, but not necessary. Mr. Sheperd is just very smart and knowledgeable about DSMs and knows how to make them dangerously fast. ;) Quaife does offer a lifetime warranty on their LSDs, so go ahead and break one if you can, the'll replace it.

NO THERE IS NO WARRANTY ON DSM CENTER DIFFERENTIALS FROM QUAIFE. It's in the fine print on their website, it's the only unit for ANY application that they offer no warranty.

John is sponsored by ACT, forced performance, BJ's cylinder head service, and DSS fyi.

Ok guys I am really confused for these reasons.

Is the higher quality LSD for cars that are putting high numbers down in the hp area? Why would SlowBoy recommend something that is junk? Why would they run something in there cars that is junk and not the best quality? Does it just come down to each person individual cars and what they have in them? With my setup I will be in the mid to low 12’s but will have problems with traction, so I am going to need some type of LSD. I cant just put my finger on the best one for the money.

AFAIK on RRE's site, they only really recommend the Quaiffe Center Diff. to high HP applications. For the AWD guys (especially 1G people), I would replace the rear differential with the Kazz LSD. The LSD design generally speaking holds up better than the stock VC differential because of the degredation of the viscous fluid. The price is decently modest too, however there might be additional costs such as an "install" kit or whatever...
