I am looking to purchase an EPROM ECU if pos. My ECU is F'd up and I need one bad. I am a little worried about just jumping in and buying the first one at the first price I see. Is $295 fair? I was told the caps were replaced in it.

Thanks.

That's on the high end of the scale. It would have to be perfect, with a better than average job replacing the caps and socketed before I'd pay almost $300 for it. If it's not socketed your going to pay around $50 to have it done right.

Hell, an ECU from ecudirect.com is $269 for your car. Offer him less, tell him that your buddies on the forums got theirs for less than $200 and see what he says. I got mine off of dsmtrader personally. ECUs tend to be bit more expensive on ebay. Also keep in mind when you're looking that a 90 ECU will work in your car too. You just have to modify the harness a TINY bit.

It all depends. I think its too much. But if it is socketed and also has new cap done. Then that is a decent price. Check on ebay.com or dsmtrader. Or the classified on this website. thanks oj

Actually, I found that guy on DSM Trader. I did find a crap load of 90 ECUs. I just want to get a good one a nd not worry. I thank you all for the input. I will keep looking. It seems my ECU is ok, sorta. I replaced the caps last night and so far car is working. I hope to find that awsome deal on the Eprom ECU before my car acts up again. Then I can get it socketed as needed and chipped. Thanks again.

It's an extra $30 if you get it socketed through DSMLink's socket service. Most other electronics shops will do it for $30-40. If you're good with a low-wattage iron you can do like I did and pay a few cents for a socket and a few bucks for a solder sucker and do it yourself. If you're not proficient in soldering PCBs, don't attempt this.
