What do you guys think? (Interior paint)

Wow thats ugly why not just leave it stock.... First is performance then other goodies....Should of least had a better color scheme.

For F's sake people read the whole thread! He didnt have a stock one he was just fixing a problem!

I don't think it would look that bad if the colors were inverted, A little orange is cool but its just a little over the top. If you paint the hvac knobs black it would help a little along with the ebrake. Basically everything that is orange should be black and all black should be orange, then it would probably be a pretty good look.

Just my .02

ok, to answer poeples questions about why I kept the orange in the fist place: I did this becasue the car is orange. Look in my profile, and im not a fíng ricer. Beleive me, I would have kept it all stock but it was painted when i bought the car. I wasnt going to hold back buying a car I really wanted just because of the painted interior that I could easily fix. Now, what colors do you guys think I should go with next. All black? I dont really have a wide variety of colors since im using krylon fusion, so I need a cimple color scheme. Im also going to be painting the car graphite grey pearl, the color from the evo8 if that helps at all.

I would go all black. If you are painting the car grey, then you could go for a two-tone look like black and silver or black and grey. The bright colors look wierd, I had my 92 GS in bright blue, it was cool for about a month then I started hating it.

werd. I did white accents in my 1g, it looked good because it wasn't too abstract or "overboard" so-to-speak. (white shift boot, radio trim piece, HVAC controls, and the 2 dash screw covers). Its all personal opinion, some people LOVED it, while others didn't. My 2g is the stock color scheme and IMO that is the best (All black, or black with gray accents) I hate the all gray 2g interior though, looks kinda cheap.

Anyway, I think they make some vinyl paint you can get at walmart, or any auto parts store that really holds up well for interior pieces. (My G/F owns my 1g now and it still shines, I painted over 4.5 years ago)

Anyway, do you have any exterior pics? I would like to see the orange paint job.

I have been doing searches on painting the interior and I have a few questions. Should I use the dupli color vinyl paint for just the dash and then krylon fusion for all of the plastic? Will that vinyl paint even stick well over paint that was already painted on the vinyl? Also, people have been saying to use clearcoat for the vinyl paint on the dash but I dont want it shineing a ton. If I dont use the clearcoat for that will the paint even hold up? I guess my main concern is that the shine on all of the plastic pieces painted with satin black fusion wont really match a real glossy shine on the dash with the clearcoat. And, O dont want to use glos blck fusion for the plastic becasue the satin already has enough shine to it.

I have never painted vinyl, so I can't help you with that. BUT Krylon Fusion is available in Satin Black, Gloss Black and Flat Black. If you don't want the shine, try Flat Black.

thanks, I have tried the satin and I like it. Im just afraid that flat black would just be too dull.
On the otherhand, can someone help me out with my previous post.
-thanks

... Well, the orange is a little bright IMHO, but if you like it, its' your car xP Since yuo have an orange car, why don't you try to color match w/that orange, and use it as accents instead of having the WHOLE interior that way? The lighter the color, the more of a bi*** it is to keep it clean, ya know?

Howie~

-The interior colors look a lot better in person. The colors look so bright in the pics because of the flash on my digital camera and the lighiting in my garage is quite dark. That is probably why everyone hates the orange becasue the flash makes is seem way brighter than is really is. Its almost closer to a burnt orange

How bout an exterior shot of the car and one from the outside with a shot on the inside so we can get a better view on how it looks on the car.

There is an exterior shot of the car. Click on the link of my car and scroll down all the way to the bottom of the profile and theres a pic of the car. I dont have any other pics besides that. Below are some pics before I painted the car. The paint looks a lot worse then in the pics because the camera couldnt pick up that much of detail.

and yes I know about the red door jams so keep your mouths shut, this was the work of the previous owner. I plan on fixing all of this by the end of winter and after I get my new rebuilt 6 bolt back in.

personaly i like the orange on theoutside but not on the interior. you had an excellent idea with the black and grey. i would do a black gloss and a dark metallic grey to match the body when you have it painted. then its uniqely stock. but the floor mats need turned over.

I'm not much of a fan. I think the black looks better than the white, but I can't keep from looking at the ugly orange. I would have just went with an all black interior, but I like to keep my stuff simple, yet effective.

*shrugs*

To each their own.

I would just get the car resprayed in red and go with the black/grey colors for the interior. You did quality work but its a little to much for a car thats not a car show whore.

how much did you spend in the krylon fusion and how long did it take? my talon is white right now and im doing some body work when im done i plan on painting it a dark graphite color. so i might consider doing a custom interior like that with black and graphite. do you know if that krylon paint will last long or just fade.

I know the Krylon paint I've used has stayed the course quite well. I painted parts of the interior of my Grand Am GT with it, and it's not cracked, chiped, or faded since I've done it.

The size of the pieces you do though, are whats going to determine how much paint you'll need. If you've got some big pieces, expect to use a decent amount because you'll want to put more than one coat of paint on, as well as a clear coat for extra protection.

thanks, im a novice at the whole paint thing didnt know if it would come out chinsey or not . i did my gauges but that was easy. do you know how hard it would be to do a consol , dash , door panels, vents , ect. well how easy for a novice.

-what clear coat did u spray over the fusion. I didnt spray any clear over mine because I didnt want it to be really shiny, and I heard that when the clear gets hot from the sun it gets sticky

Eric you've got some balls man. I've swapped motors, built custom kits and parts, etc.. But I cannot bring myself to pull my dash apart like that! Too many wires, elricals, etc.. So, commendations for your work man. You are apparently inclined witht he ability to take things apart and put them back together pretty well. I like how you did it the right way, instead of spraying while it was still in the car.

-Hey thanks a lot, but can anybody answer my question in my previous post

If there is already paint on the vinyl thats stuck and not pealing, grab a light scuff pad and a tack cloth from advanced auto... lightly scuff it up and then tack cloth the whole thing to make sure theres no dust or lint on it. Paint will generally always stick to more paint. As for the clear, your dash probably doesnt see too much action like if it were an armrest so I dont think wearing off would be an issue. On the other hand Im not sure if it would have the UV protection it would if you dont use clear, so it might fade quick. If you use enamel with a light coat of clear you can get a textured look, I use it a lot on some of my friends euro cars. Just something to think about.
