what all needs to be covered before using an engine bay degreaser?

what all needs to be covered before using an engine degreaser? I figure the alternator needs to be covered. Is there anything else that needs to be covered?

I would remove the battery from the car. Cover all of your sensor with plastic bags, eg. cam/cas sensor (1g), your fuse box, all electrical things. Also make sure you keep water from washing down into the spark plug holes.

Also keep the degreaser from getting into the belts, it will eat them.

So it is possible if your careful. Do it when you have some time, just incase if you get water in something you can wait and let it dry out.

I better be more carefull..
All I do is cover my filter with a plastc bag, and avoid the aternator.. OOPS!!

Out of the three DSMs I've had.... Ive only covered the air filter and battery while degreasing. While using a pressure washer or hose.... I cover a lot of things. Make sure if you don't have a spark plug cover that you put plastic on the valve cover. It will fill up with water and you don't want water down in those holes.

I have done both of my DSM's a couple times now, and all I do is disconnect the negetive battery cable. That way no power goes to anything in the car. The connectors in your car are supposed to be water proof anyways though the seals can wear out over time. If you are unsure, after rinsing the engine compartment with a hose, take an air nozzle from an air compressor and blow the engine compartment out for a good 10 - 15 minutes. Make sure no water pooled up around your spark plugs either. It should be fine.
