Wess Hess Passes After A Wreck -R I P

Obviously going to fast for the conditions. Lucky nobody in the oncoming car got seriously hurt.

Sounds like they caused the accident by driving to fast. I can understand that that it was wrong for VTEC_THIS to imply that they were street racing, but the sentence you quoted from him was a good one to go by.

And I hope you don't consider this negative, cause it would be a shame to see the mods on this site pick and choose what they agree with being relevant in their eyes.

Did you even read my entire post. He was saying it is ok to do the exact thing they were doing but in a different form. And then said what they were doing was wrong. I would be willing to bet that 90% of the members on here has done or does this exact thing. That can be tuning, "having fun" as VTECH_THIS said, or whatever you want to call it.

Honestly, I don't care if you or anybody else thinks it is right or wrong. This thread wasn't made to have a debate. If you or anybody else wants to debate whether it was right or wrong, go make another thread.

Hey folks, for those who know or have had dealings with Wes Hess in Clovis....
Wes and one of his friends, Ryan, were involved in a serious car accident on 12/22. They were tuning a turbo'd Mustang ( visit Hess Racing for shop and car info ) when they lost control of the vehicle. Both are in critical condition in a Lubbock hospital with grim outlooks.
Wes has been a HUGE contributor to the local car community. Please extend your thoughts and prayers to both these men and their families.

I sure hope the best for him.
He'll be in my prayers.

Keep this thread clean, guys. This is a tragedy, not a debate. None of us are in any position to conclude anything from the actions of these guys. Let's just hope for a full and speedy recovery of a well known and respected DSMer and his friend.

I wasn't familiar with Hess before this post. I clicked on his website link and was just flat out amazed by his work. The an is an artist when it comes to fabrication! That single turbo Mustang was a work of art. So much work and I am sure from the looks of the Chrysler that there is pretty much nothing left. Looks like they had hundreds of hours of fab into that machine. Very sad.

A donation account has been set-up to aid the Hess family during this trying time. Every little bet helps whether it be $1, $5, or $20. This is purely voluntary but we want to ensure that Wes' family and his medical bills are addressed. I'd like to think us DSMers are a tight knit family and even though times are tight for everyone, every little bit helps. Let's do our best on this guys.

What a sad day for the DSM community. Wes has accomplished more than most of us will have 10 years from now and he has done it with professionalism and a good heart. For those who ever dealt with him, they will know he was always willing to educate rather than castigate anyone who came to him for work and information.

With that being said, let us remember that he was not the driver, for all we know, he was asking the driver to slow down and be safer. So do not pass along judgement when you have no idea what really happened that day, just as I am sure neither do the police. There are many things that could have happened, speed may have been a factor, but whatever caused him to lose control could have been just as bad at speed limits. Maybe one of the wheels blew out, who knows. This isn't the time for judgement. This is a human being with a family who is fighting for his life, and they are experiencing anguish that many of us will hopefully never feel.

All in all, this man has contributed much to our community, and based on the workings of his from his site alone, has transcended the immature domestic versus import, Mustang versus DSM bullcrap that many let waste precious hours that should have been spent building the best car they can. Losing him would be a step back for the DSM community. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Also, I do not know his personal life, with what benefits he may have from the military, or if he has another job. However, if his livelihood is his shop, than he obviously is also providing his own medical benefits, or may have to pay his own medical bills out of pocket. If anyone could find out if there is a fund or anything set up to help his family quell the financial pain so they can focus on getting him back to whole, be nice to post it on here.

My best wishes, not condolences, on your recovery Wes. It is the only outcome I am allowing to enter my mind.

Here is a message from Wess' wife, Tanya. You are in our prayers Wess.

This is Wes's wife. Wes's injuries are too severe and he will not be able to pull through. We were told that if he ever wakes up he will have no quality of life and will not be aware of his surroundings. He also may never wake up and would be on a ventilator in a nursing home for the rest of this life. As all of you know, Wes would never want this. He will probably be pulled off life support in the next day or two and we will let God take over. I appreciate all your thoughts and prayers and I know Wes would be touched by all who are thinking about him. Someone has called me in regards to Wes's paypal account. I apologize for not getting back to you. The number I had was not correct and I had no way of getting back in touch with you. I do have access to his account.

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. I am touched by how many people reached out to us in this time of need.

Damn man, this sucks. This guy was awsome. He was a true old school dsmer. Its so sad and feel so bad for his wife and family, my condolences go out.

I dont even know what to say. I looked up to guys like this when i first got into dsms, he and others inspired me to build dsms. I remember back in the day about 7 years ago i had all of his vids off the internet of him tearing up the track, faster then most go today.

That freaking sucks.

EDM, PM me with how you contacted his wife or where you got that quote from.

She was posting on the local board. I saw cut/paste of it on the NABR thread. :(

RIP Wess.

Wess was a great guy and will be missed by many. I know him personally as he built the motors in both of my DSMs many many years ago before he moved on to Texas.

RIP Wess, may god be with you and your family.

Wes was indeed a brilliant and great person. I have dealt with him over the years through Email and at his home when he lived in reading. He was truly an innovator and an artists. Only he his art through the things that we love. This is a very unfortunate thing to happen. Especially to someone as awesome as he was. My Prays are with Wes and his family.

RIP Friend

I just texted my stepfathers friend who knew him before he joined the military and was in shock to here this happened. Will be missed by many.

RIP Wes
