Ok so this is my first post... Basically I have an idea about whats going on but I want to see if you agree. You can skip to the tech part if you dont want to read the story.. Here is what happend and I am sorry if I drag on. It was 430 am and my wives sister was going through labor. I told my wife that she would have to drive herself to work. She took herself to work in my car But she called me back 1 minute later and stated "I am coming home your car keeps shutting off on me!". So I dragged myself out of bed and drove her halfway to work. Then I asked her why it did not shut off for me and she didn’t know, so I made her drive the rest of the way so I could see what she was doing wrong. She was trying to go forward at 1500 rpm. I said no, rev to about 2,500 or 3000 rpms before letting the clutch up. She said " I am scared, this car takes off on me." I said just give it a little more gas. She revved it up to about 6000 rpms and slowly let off the clutch going about 5 mph. She rode the clutch for about 2 blocks then slowed the rpms down and stayed about 3000 rpms. This went on for about 10 minutes. After we got to her work I saw smoke starting to come out of the hood. My wife found a way to make rotten egg smoke come out of my car.
Tech stuff.
I think I need a new clutch. What do you think? Last night on the freeway I would hit the gas the car would rev but not go anywhere. Then It would finally kick in about 3 second later, (would that be a way to describe a "slip". It was only in 5th gear last night but today Evry gear does that. Sometimes it can wait up to like 10 seconds before it starts to put the power to the wheels. My car seems to shift just fine and stays in gear. Once I start gaining speed my car seems to do a lot better. Because of this I am guessing that my trany is fine and that my clutch is gone. Is this right? Am I right enough to buy a ACT 2600 clutch before my mechanic looks at it? Any input helps thanks.

If you give the car gas to accelerate and the rpms are increasing, But your speed isn't, Your clutch is slipping. If you have your pedal adjusted so it grabs at the very top, That can also be the problem of why it's slipping.

Edit: Just read your whole post, You're clutch is most likly junk now. If you get an act 2600, Don't let your wife drive it during the 500miles break in period!

Yeah, your going to need a new clutch, I have a friend who drives a DSM, and lets just say... he drives it like a madman, always racing everywhere, not very nice on the clutch. Same exact thing to his 1g. Had to replace the clutch. Good Luck

Yep, clutch is toast. One reason only I or my mechanic ever drive the GSX. Only one of my friends has a car that could be considered 'performance', and it's an automatic Mustang.

Sorry I didn't think the first few sent. Good think I am a rookie, or you would think I didnt know what I was doing....:)

Well, I just tryied to drive it again, and I can not drive it anymore. I was at a stoplight on a hill and the light turned green, and I put it in first and tryed to go up the hill. I Went back about 15 feet untill it finaly stoped, then slowly made it up the hill. So should I place my order tonight for a clutch before my machanic can look at it?

Yeah I'm about 99.9999999% sure its your clutch and its SAFE to say that a new clutch is in need. Save yourself some downtime and order one asap, then when you're mechanic tells you he's gonna order you a clutch. Pull one outta your ass and suprise him a little.
It's always nice to find out you dont need to order a part cus its laying around your garage...

Will do, thanks for your imput. Act2600 will be on its way. Kinda funny, my wife does not like the sound of me upgrading my car, then somthing breaks and I get no slack for upgrading. I kinda wish she blew the turbo...Maby she will drive it again.

Which is why I married a woman who knows how to drive a stick, even though she keeps going over curbs and other things. :toobad:

And yeah, your clutch is toast. When you put the clutch in make sure you get an OEM Mitsubishi throw out bearing, resurface the flywheel and replace the rear main oil seal while you are at it. If you haven't changed the clutch master and slave cyl, do that too. I have 58xxx miles on mine, my master was replaced at a 45xxx clutch change and slave was replaced at 57 since it was leaking.
