Weird Stereo Install Question

Why did you have to attach a wire from the radio to the emergency break???? If i may ask.

I have no idea why they want the wire on the parking brake. Whatever reason really screwed up the anti lock brakes, I'm thinking it's a fuse. I'm going to work more on it today when I get home from work.

I have no actual experience with this Sony, and I agree that the wiring is somewhat weird, but anyway... The wire for the parking brake I believe is to allow the cd player to display video clips on the screen. Sony doesn't wanna distract you with video if you're driving :)

As far as everything else goes, I'm starting to lean towards the possibility that it could just be a malfunctioning unit. You're clearly getting power to it, so it seems to me to be up to the player now to be able to turn on. If it's not even allowing you to reset the unit and come back into a mode that will allow you to set that clock. Make sure you go to page 13 of the instruction manual (given by kevspyder earlier) and follow those directions, if not, it'd say you're out of luck there.

Right on the money, But instead of just giving up, take it to an audio center and have them bench test it. If it is bad, then you know, if it isn't they will tell you what your doing wrong and provide you with a wiring diagram and installation sheet for proper installation of the unit.

I know this may sound stupid but, its actually in standby mode..did ou try turning the power on?, like pressing FM or CD..alot of radios you have to do that to actually turn it on..and if its turning on that far...you have no voltage problem...

Hey guys thanks for all the help. I took it to have it bench tested and one of the buttons was stuck in so they strayed this oil crap in it and worked on pulling it in and out for about 15 minutes and finally got it out and the unit is working. I haven't installed it in the car yet but I'm hoping that since they got it working at the store that it'll work when I get it in the whip. I'll post some install pics of the beast when I get it in.

Good fix. Let us know. Sounds like we found out why you got it for cheap, too.

Well I finally had time to get the head unit in. It seems to work great! I didn't hook that green wire to the emergency brake yet, I'm guessing that when the parking brake is set it plays movies and little clips, but when it's not it just does some small random animation things.
