weird sound

i was entering on the highway at 55mph and drop it into 3rd or 4th (not sure) and took it to about 5500 rpm to spool my new evo3 16g w/314 miles and the car made a phuffzzz and the boost left and saw a big cloud of smoke behind me. after that i took it up to about 4000 rpm and spooled fine w/no problem. I do not have a boost controller. what does anybody think that was all about?

no i dont. i going to put a greddy electronic boost controller/gauge

Did the boost just drop off or did you let off the throttle? Was the smoke blue, black or white?

the boost just dropped. it was night but i think the smoke was blackish. I had a friend tell me that it was probably the fuel cutting off cause it was too much boost.
