great falls, Montana
just installed new thermostat about a month ago. my stock gauge always sits a little below halfway when warmed up, but my aftermarket gauge will go up to 250 then goes down to 210 after it opens. would it be possible my new oem thermostat is bad? i tested it and it seems to open and close normally. just dont know which gauge to trust. i will plug into link tomrw and see ### it reads.

never go off of onboard temp gauge. Replace rad cap as well. Only like 5 dollars. Check what link says, and get back with us.

Burp the system again. I recently just had problems with running hot after swapping my head. It kinda sounds like you got a tiny pocket of air in the system. I had to park up a hill block rear tires and jack it up a little.4 times of burping and two bad connections later it is running perfect temps, with a big front mount.

Mine would go up to just about 300*f then open drop to 190*f close then start the process again. Hope this helps.

that seems to be the same thing mine is doing. i tried burping it but ended up just getting coolant everywhere. will try again later as well as check link to see what it says.

plugged the car into link and running now. my temps in link are not the same as the temps on my aftermarket gauge.

temps in link were right around 190 which is perfect, but my aftermarket gauge was going up to 250 and would rise when i turned the heat up. im thinkin the gauge is bad.

Where is your aftermarket gauge getting the reading from? If it's tapping into the same temp sensor as the ecu/link is reading, then I would agree it is probably bad. If its some cool guy setup with its own sensor/bung somewhere, maybe take a look at that. Just a random, last minute, just in case .02 cents
