weird boost problem

So sometimes when i'm driving, the car will sometimes boost normally, then sometimes it would sound like the shaft of the turbo is hitting the side of the turbo. I pulled out the intake to check for shaft play, the turbo was a rebuilt 14b and i only put ~3000 miles on it and it has a tiny bit play up and down left and right, what could've caused this? a bad turbo rebuild? i already picked up another used turbo with 0 shaft play, should i just go ahead and get the turbo replaced?

Go ahead and put the used one on, a bad rebuild could cause it.

bad rebuild not uncommon put the stock one on and take the rebuilt one back to whoever rebuilt it

I thought a (small amount of) little up, down, left, right was ok. In and out is what kills.

When the turbo is being oiled the movement is taken care of.

well i went ahead and got my mechanic to put in the "new" turbo and i made a new thread about a new problem i encountered on this turbo... its on http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/354497-stuck-shaft.html but long story short, i got the "new" turbo on and the shaft won't spin even when the turbo had 0 shaft play and spun freely when it wasn't on the car. thanks for the help tho
