Hey Whats up. I recently got a 16g Evo III turbo installed on my 1998 GST. The thing is, my car is automatic. When I try to launch I get no power, I mean I'll get taken off the line by minivans and stuff. When I had the little t25 I used to hold the brake and gas, then let of the brake and that thing would rip decently out of the hole. Shoot, I used to launch dead even with my buddies H22 EG Hatch. Could I be revving too high before the launch? It takes what seems like forever to spool. BTW I launch at like 2,600 rpm with about 5lbs of boost, thats all it will go up to.

boost leaks or exhaust leak before the turbo... The both could cause slow spools and slow boost.

Also, I might mention that I am still using the Stock UIC pipe. The lower intercooler pipe had to be jimmy rigged for the 16g to fit to the stock smic. Could that cause a major performance letdown?

From your lower intercooler pipe description I'd say it sounds like a boost leak.

I'd also get that upper intercooler pipe replaced as it's definitely a restriction.

One last thing, When I get into the high rmp ranges; like 5 or 6 grand, there is a loud popping noise coming from what sound like the o2 dump tube. I don't know if this could be caused by a boost leak or lack of fuel. I am only running 13psi on the turbo.

Probably misfiring from running too rich because of boost leaks.

If you're letting out metered air there is too much fuel and not enough air which will cause improper combustion.

First off to the OP I love the color of your car. 2nd off sounds like a prime example of a boost leak also when you "jimmy rigged" the IC pipes did you remove the silencer because mine broke and I had a bad boost leak like that. Check the silencer to make sure its in good condition.

Thanks for the compliment on the color of my car. And yes the silencer is removed. The method of lower intercooler pipe used consists of the original hose and some press bent exhaust piping from autozone cut to fit, so there is most likely leaks coming from that area.

Do a boost leak test and get back to use promptly with your situation anfter you deal with any boost leaks.
