well today i changed out my water pump and replaced the timing belt while i was at it. everything went good and all. after i drove my car, i didnt feel it pull the way it used to. and now it idles way lower than it used to. before the water pump change, it used to idle like at 1400, and sometimes would jump up to 2000 rpms. now it idles at 600. but my car feels slower though. could it be that i tightened the t-belt too much? or what can be the problem???

yes.. it sounds like your off a tooth... its probably the exhaust cam... its kinda a pain to get that on lined up right.. it took me a few times (doing it by myself) to get that exhaust cam lined up....

Did you replace the tensioner as well? Balance shaft belts? These items tend to be temperamental on these machines...

i knew what he meant about rechecking the marks. damn, being off a tooth makes that much of a difference. WTF well anyways, got that fixed, and then was wondering if timing should be 8 deg advanced, since i read that somewhere on these forums, but i guess its supposed to be at 5 then? and yes, tensioner and balance shaft belts were replaced as well. also new thermostat.

balance shaft removal is another thing that will just make life easier... Its kinda controversial, but I took the belt off my front balance shaft and did the removal of the rear one... leaving the front one in doesnt hurt anything because its not in the interference zone of any other part... it makes it easier to do the procedure because you dont have to put the block-off bearings in... The front shaft does it....

Balance shafts suck anyway
