ok ill try to explain this as best as possible, would be great if i had a digital camera but im poor since i own a dsm. anyway to point.

Ok Im doing a 1g head swap and its bolted up except for water pipe. I went to local junk yard and bought a 92 eclipse nt water pipe. it bolted up after a lil bending but ran into a few problems. no oil cooler nipple and it sticks out from block (like 1.5 inches) too much to let my pte 60-1 turbo fit. I dont think I could beat it in that much like i did with my 2g pipe. I was told i needed a turbo pipe so it could give coolant to oil cooler but then i would still be stuck with the pipe hitting turbo because it not hugging block like 2g pipe.

So I figured maybe this is another route I could go. I get my existing pipe that routes back to thermostat. I cut the pipe right after the bracket that holds it in place with block. That way i could still have the oil coolant nippe and i could connect the end of pipe to bottom of radiator and best of all have enough space so it wont hit turbo since its snug to block. The oil coolant will still reroute like stock.

Now here is the more difficult part. The thinner piece on pipe would be cut of course. So i was doing my thinking and thougt since the 1g thermostat housing has more holes than i needed on my 2g, i could just get a threaded nipple from home depot and just thread one on there (or two) so I could get coolant to throttle body and heater core( I think thats the two places it heads to).

From my thoughts I figured I could make it work but I want to know your opinions and if I would run into trouble. :dsm:

Or instead of putting yourself through all of that trouble you could just as easily buy one from Ebay or go back to the junk yard and get a 1g turbo one.....

I cut my water pipe to fit my 60trim. I cut out a section about 4 inches from behind the exhaust housing. I replaced the soft hose that runs to the radiator return with one that routes an inch higher than the stock one. This allowed the water pipe to fit above the compressor housing. I used a 1.25" straight hose to connect the cut section. the exhaust housing gets pretty hot, so I used a piece of aluminum and wrapped it around the hose as a heat shield.

i would of course do that but from what i head. a 1g nt water pipe and a 1g turbo water pipe are the same except for the nipple for the oil cooler. if thats true then it wouldnt let my turbo fit. if you look at how far out a bracket goes on the pipe on a nt its like an inch and a half out from pipe. and then add another .75 inch because of the bend on the 1g pipe and itll be over two inches that its sticking out.and my 2g pipe bracket goes out about half an inch.

isnt it aluminum? kinda hard to find someone that welds that material
It's not that hard to weld AL. I'm not sure how thin walled this pipe is, but any decent machine shop can weld plate AL. The only people that will have trouble are small shops and DIY people that don't have the proper tools.

Its mild steel not aluminum. And aluminum isn't that difficult to weld ( Making welds water tight is tricky tho.)

can anyone confirm if the bend on nt and turbo water pipe is different? im hoping the bend for the turbo pipe bends toward block more.

The pipes are the same they are steel there are 3 pipes

the non turbo which has no provision for turbo or oil cooler

90 turbo pipe which has turbo outlet but no cooler outlet

and 91-94 which has both cooler and turbo outlets

im using a non turbo pipe that i welded the throttle body outlet shut

i say take your 2g pipe and cut it flush just after the turbo, then cut the 1g pipe and use that half with the heater core and throttle body outlets and take it into place installed and tig weld it together.

I did sort-of the same thing...bought a 1g pipe and tried to put it one and it stuck out way to far. So I cut off all the outlets on the 2G pipe and welded them shut, sanded them smooth and then cut the "upward" turn at the end of the pipe, made a splice out of a piece of thin metal and welded it up.. with my 1g (90 model) in my 2g I didn't have to cut the counter weight from the tranny since I could make it any angle I needed.
I say cut your 2G and weld to fit.

well i ended up finding a 1g turbo water pipe. some shop wanted to charge me 40 dollars to weld the two pipes together so i was like f that.

anyway got the 1g pipe that only comes with a turbo coolant line. my new turbo doesnt use coolant so i cut the end with the banjo bolt fitting and rerouted the line to oil cooler. then the oil cooler line return, i used the cut banjo bolt fitting and put it on the turbo coolant return hole on block. then i just cut the return line from oil cooler where it met the fitting and put a high pressure hose to join them together. sounds good eh? :thumb:
