Calgary,
Hey guys, I'm going to get a water/alcohol injection kit in a couple of weeks, and I'm just wondering what I should be looking for. My mods are listed, and I'm shooting for an eventual 400HP or so.
I'm looking at the coolingmist products, has anyone used them, are they good, bad or ugly?
Should I be looking for the more advanced systems, like the more tuneable ones, or is a regular system pretty much the same(such as having the pump come on at a certain PSI, but not adjusting the pump/flow rate or anything).

Also, will most/any/all pumps pump water and alcohol, or a mix of both, or just one?

Thanks a lot for the info guys, I'll check ya later.

The stage 1 coolingmist system will be fine, unless you plan on putting out some serious boost and adv timing to have a second stage added. A single stage will work but its your choice. Also a pump will pump whatever you put in it. Quite a few people are running washer fluid becuase it is part alcohol and it is really cheap and has proven very effictive. I will be running washer fluid injection soon with 20psi on a 19c with my timing adv 25 at redline shooting for no knock :D :D :thumb:

depending on what washer fluid you use, you might be really sorry. i run an inline fuel filter before the pump. the blue stuff clogged it up so bad there was no flow. calcium deposits just like the hard water deposits in your bath. lots of companies dont use distilled water in the blue stuff. now i only use distilled water, and mix with denatured alcohol. i use aquamist nozzles, and they can clog if you use tap water.

I just bought my coolingmist system and it should be in tomorrow. I talked on the phone with the tech there for quite a while and this is some of the things that he told me.

stage 1 with the 3.9gph is good up to over 300hp with a recommended nozzle placement of just after the IC
I also got the nozzle extension so that the spray goes at a 90 degree angle straight into the incoming air

to find the correct size nozzle he asked me type of car, dynod HP if known, and amount of boost

i got the basic stage 1 with a lot of the deluxe upgrades to include the 100psi pump, clogged nozzle detector, upgraded nozzle, filter, upgraded hoses, relay harness, and 2.5qt tank for just over 300

the basic stage 1 with all of the upgrades gives you everything a deluxe stage 1 has with the exception of a on/off switch for a lot less
(at least from the item lists that i saw)

as far as what to put in the tank the tech recommended either plain distilled water
or 50/50 water alcohol mix. i did ask about the washer fluid and like posted above it was recommended to only use it if it specified 50/50 (or somewhere close due to the coloring)
and that it was filtered water.

once it comes in and i start installing i was going to post pics

What kind of alcohol is everyone using? What's the difference and availability of denatured, methyl alcohol, etc?

I can find "Air brake Antifreeze", which we call methanol at work, but I have no idea how that would work, any ideas?

Thanks for the replies guys, keep em comin.

Well denatured alcohol is more or less Methanol, with trace amounts of alcohol. Rubbing depeding on where you buy it will be 70% which has 30% water in it, or 90% different stores/brands. Also, look at www.smcenterprises.com for their kit which I use, and Buschur uses on his Evo for 400hp on pump gas. It has a progressive controller which turns alcohol on at your choice of boost, and shoots a light spray until it goes to full pump speed or spray by abour 14-17psi. Great kit, the old one without the progressive controller gave me some bogging issues but the new kit is genuinely great. Also it is proven on GN for years. Not a bad price either, and you can run your choice of alochol. I still say Denatured all the way, best results with cooling and knock supression. Any more questions ask.

for lots of really good information, go here:

for aquamist, and related parts, go here:

http://www.kcsaab.com/

brad schaffner has been involved in water injection systems for longer than most people are old. he will answer all of your questions, and is a really nice guy. no sales pressure, just answers. i dont have an aquamist system, but i do use some of their stuff, like the nozzles, nylon line, snap fittings. one of the drawbacks of the aquamist nozzle is the strange thread pitch. typical british. for drill and tap, go here:

https://www.mscdirect.com

if you get on the yahoo group, there is a post telling you the size. the tap is way less expensive than from aquamist.

the yahoo group also has a lot of info on using the mcmaster carr nozzles, i prefer the aquamist. they are tiny, and can go just about anywhere. also, there is a lot of information on size and flow for aquamist nozzles.
