Are there different throws on wastegate actuators?
I am putting together a 20g with td05 housing. I am trying to use a wastegate actuator off of a 16g. I have ported the td05 housing to include making sure the wastegate opens a full 90 degrees. The problem is with the 16g actuator, when I blow air into it, it only opens about 45 degree nowhere near the 90 degrees the gate is capable of. The only way I see that it will open farther is if the actuator has a longer throw.

So what kind of actuator do I need to open the gate all the way?

None of the MHI actuators that I know of are capable of opening much further than you are talking about.

been checking around for various actuators - does anyone know what the the throw is on a t3 actuator?

Every actuator brand varies in travel- however, I've yet to see one that allowed the flapper to open a full 90*.

Keep in mind the distance the flapper opens really doesn't do much to aid in the wastegate's effectiveness. A thermostat only opens 1/4" but it doesn't really hinder coolant flow in the least. Those who are having extreme boost creep will find that boost is still uncontrollable even with the actuator removed completely and the flapper blowing in the breeze.

Honestly, you wasted your time porting the housing to let the flapper open 90*. The only way you'll run into boost creep problems with a 20G is if you're trying to run it at a very low boost level, and if that's the case you've chosen the wrong turbo. I've used MHI actuators on 20G's for years and the wastegate system worked perfectly even though the flapper only opened 1/4".

Thanks, I already have a MHI actuator fitted on the turbo, I'll try it first before I do anything else.

If you really need more wastegate travel for some reason, you could always change the length of the arm on the wastegate flapper. Making it shorter would make the actuator move it farther.
....and reduce the amount of leverage given to hold the flapper shut under high boost. This is mod not recommended for boost over 20psi.
