I spun 2 bearings on my 95 tsi and am getting the crank turned and the pistons surfaced and balanced and rebuilding the engine. and the just i got the car from said you could prevent crankwalk bu aliging the oil shooter to the crank properly or something IDK I was just wondering how to prevent it or since it didnt walk after 156,000 miles on the same block will i be ok. i have a act2600. quick help.

Magnus Motosports have a good write up on what they think is a good possible cause for crankwalk. check there site! has a lot to do with the oil squirters.

I'm doing a 4G64 with 4G63 1G conversion at the moment, not going to use any squirters as magnus said there are some out there and no probs'. i think it all in the tuning you got to think that factory are made for economy not all out power or else 660 and 720cc inj' would come stock and the pistons wouldn't have the need for oil cooling!!

One thing is to not use the clutch all that often. Such as, sitting at the light holding in the clutch or being in traffic and leaving the clutch engaged. It puts pressure on the crankshaft. Some people even disengage the clutch start on the vehicle.

yeah i have the clutch pedal disengaged on start but what doesnt make sense as why would u REMOVE the oil squirters when thats what puts oil on the crank to keep it from moving?

Oil squirters got nothing to do with putting oil on the crank, they are there to cool down the inner crown of the piston. As well on 2G's where the oil comes from is more of a problem if the squirter sticks open they bleed of oil pressure to that bearing. Plus have oil squirted under the piston crowns might help cooling but also causes windage when it rains back down on the crank which also can rob horsepower.

Anyone have much faith in Concept Racing's theory? I can't find the link right now but I know MachV sells the kit. If you search here or on Google for the Concept Racing main bearing alignment kit you'll find it.

I haven't really heard of any 100% die hard way to prevent it except getting a 6 bolt. I have heard of theories like using the clutch as little as possible, avoiding the heavier clutches, and no preloading.

There is no way to prevent CW. Since there has been no way to determine what causes it. There is more going on than a simple clutch thing or oil squirter this and that. These are all theories that have nit been proven, just a bunch of engine builders with very educated guesses.

If the problem was figured out, other than the fact that some cranks were out of spec form the factory, then there would be a sollution.

A 6bolt or rebuild does not mean you will never get it, nor does having an A/T transmission. They have all walked, just maybe not as much. If you had your NEW engine built to spec then you should feel better than most of us running a stock block that has never been opened up. I look at it like this, if it happens....it happens. Gives you a reason to possibly do something different than the first time around.

Good luck

Every thing is preventable you just got to find the cause! Do toyota's crank walk? Nissans? i dont no either, but the one thing i know 2G's do it a lot and guys like Magnus will be the guys who take the time and come up with ideas and theories that do hold water and it will be some try hard dedicated person that will find the cause of it, not the manufacturer or else their part sales will go down. Gods only has got a guy that sits on his right hand side at the moment and the person that fixes crankwalk will sit on his left!!! Hat's off to Magnus for his long hours of beer and pizza and the dedication to try and solve the problem to help you guy's.

I still believe it's a flaw in some of the production runs of the crankshaft. Otherwise, either all of them or none of them would get it.

That is about the long and short of it. Just no way to prove anything without taking everything apart only to discover nothing or everything is wrong.
