so last night i installed a spare 14b, and as i was looking for leaks making sure everything was ok, i stood back watching her purr, when i seen an arc from the battery area to the engine and the car died. i say wtf and looked over everything and it looked fine, had ryan try to start it, nothin.

checked the fuel pump fuse (which is rewired to a relay in the back) and it was blown. i put in a 20, blows when its cranked, same with a 15 and another 20 we had. with the key ON i hear no pump, and the fuse is fine, once its clicked over the fuse dies.

i had one more 20, so i had the car off, and went to the relay and tapped the + to the pumps power and the fused died again.

the original fuse was a 30, which i didnt have. im thinking either

a. fuse
b. pump is bad
c. + maybe grounded?
d. insert your own answer

Sounds like it could either be the pump or your positive wire has a split, bad connection etc. & is grounded. The fuel pump doesn't get power until you are actually cranking the car, ie no power in the run position (until the car is running).

I agree....you more than likely nicked, cut or somehow shorted the wire going back to the pump relay. The first thing is to do a quick check of the wiring around where you were working. Then remove the pump from the relay and make sure you can get power to that point. If not, then remove the power from the relay, check again.

At that point it should be a solid wire from the relay to the fuse holder/block/whatever that's close to the battery.

i took the pump out, and all seems ok. i got a new relay also. i took the power and ground and hooked it straight up to the battery and it spit gas out. doing all new wiring now.

i dont know where exactly, but wiring was the issue. i did not run a new wire from battery to the back, but i did have all new wires/connectors from the relay to pump/wiring and ground.
