Does anyone know where to get a factory style rather than an inline fuse for a fuel pump rewire? Like the one that comes with the Forced Performance kit.

Also, how much do all the parts cost for a fuel pump rewire using components similar to the ones in that kit? That kit seems kind of expensive at $43, but if all that stuff costs like $25, I'm willing to pay $18 for nice connections rather than my questionable amatuer solder connections. I'm talking about really replicating that kit. I don't want to hear about how you did it mostly with stuff you had laying around and it cost like $5.

Also, the VFAQ has instructions about cutting wires and creating a new ground at the fuel pump end, but the FP instructions mention nothing about this. Do they do it a different way, are thay just not replacing as many wires.

I think my relay was around $6, a length of 10 or 8 gauge wire will be a couple bucks, a few more bucks for the fuse, connectors, etc. You can probably do it for $15 or less, but then again I don't know about using FP's style fuse. It looks simple to me though.

I have the FP FP kit. It's ok. You still have to hack the connector that plugs into the pump which sux, they make it look so clean on the site, but doesn't show any rear pics. Only thing you get is a nice relay and a fancy stock looking fuse. The wire is rather stiff and you have to cut it or else it's most likely to long.

Not to go too far down the bunny trail. Was the rewire worth the effort in your opinion? Even if you upgrade to a Walbro 255, or does it make it a neccessity then? Did it help provide maximum fuel at your top end? Thanks.

The vfaq seems to have you put the relay at the fuel pump, while the FP kit has you put it in the engine bay. Do you only run the main power wire back to the fuel pump?

Do you just leave the factory ground wire at the fuel pump in place and run a separate ground somewhere in the engine bay for the relay?

FP says the safest way to send the signal to the relay is from the blue connector in the engine bay. Why do they say that? I checked the voltage at that blue connector, and it seems to come on every time the ignition is turned on. The blue wire at the fuel pump only comes on during cranking. I think it powers up for a few seconds the first time the ignition is turned on, before you start cranking, but only that first time. Seems like this is the wire you would want to be your signal wire.

Below are some pictures I drew of how I understand each rewiring method. Please tell me if they are correct.

when i did my rewire i left the old wiring as the enegizer for the relay, and then had the new power supply feed through the contacts. totally worth it in my opinion.

think about it in exhaust terms. stock wiring is tiny. so you're trying to push 12-13v through tiny wiring. upgrade the gauge of the wiring and you can more easily acess that full 12-13v.

i bought my rewire kit through dsmotorsport.com. they had directions but i had to figure some out myself. but yeah, i used the stock wiring to energize the relay then used the new power supply line as the contacts part. now it sees 12-13v all the time, instead of dropping off drastically under wot, or lots of boost.

so i used more of the vfaq method. i don't know about the fp method. i'd have to check voltages and whatnot. but i like the other method a lot better. seems to make more sense. espically if you know how relays work.

The dsmotorsport kit looks exactly like the pile of stuff I just priced at Radio Shack, which costs about $30. You still have to do all of your own crimping/soldering, correct?

truewarrior: The only wire you have to cut/connect yourself with the FP kit is at the fuel pump, correct? Can you confirm or correct the wiring diagram I drew?

I think I'm going to go with the FP kit if that's true. It's cheaper than the dsmotorsport kit, and only costs about $13 more than buying all the stuff myself. Plus I get that nifty factory style fuse holder which nobody seems to know where to get.

I was tempted to buy this kit for the price http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DSM-F...spagenameZWDVW

Anyone buy this one?

That kit doesn't look too bad, assuming he really does include high quality stuff. $24 with shipping sounds about right.

Here's the break down if you go to Radio Shack.

35' of 10 gauge wire - $13.50
30 amp relay - $6.50
30 amp inline fuse holder - $2.60
various connectors - $5.00

So that's about $28, plus it looks like you get some splitloom tubing and zip ties.

Any idea how much 10 gauge wire you need to do this? I've only found it in 35' rolls (I'm sure too much), and 8' rolls (probably not enough).

Jim,

If you haven't already done this get a hold of me on Yahoo! Messenger and I can help you .. I received a fuel pump rewire kit from Mike R. before he left town and won't be using it. I think it has just the right length (and appropriate gauge) wire that you want. Just buy me a 4-pack of Redbull or something.

Lemme know,
