Is the water pump removable without pulling the crank sprocket? The water pump is sitting between the case and the frame/inner fender? and I can't seem to wiggle it out. I don't really have the time or tools(or means to make the crank tool), so is there anyother way?

Thanks, Isaiah

no there is no other way around,. water pump is basically timing belt job. i just did mine. and, i dont remember fulling a crank sprocket, you turn it. however though, if your gonna do this job your self and worrying about the spec. tools, dont be, because there are few different ways of making your own. let me know if you need info. :thumb:
...good luck..

Yeah, while searching I saw your posts. Did everything turn out alright? I was attempting the Balance shaft elimination and Timing belt job per VFAQ.com. The only reason I started was because the water pump failed. So I thought might as well do it all. When I pulled the downpipe, x-case, and oil pan I noticed quite a few shavings in the oil pan  From what I've read it sounds like the shavings are from the con rods. Like many DSMers I've already sunk way too much money into the car. I just spent $400+ for all the T-belt/BS elimination parts and then I find rod shavings in my oil pan...so not cool. So I put the DP, X-case, and oil pan back on. Now all I want to do is get it back together and hopefully sell it for enough for a down payment on a reliable, simple automobile like a Honda...but I'm kind of leaning toward a Miata LOL. Basically everything is off, T-belt, tensioners, etc. I unbolted the water pump and I can't seem to get it to wiggle down from between the timing case and the frame. So that's where I'm stuck. And the car is in a friends garage and he is moving :thumbdown Yeah..I have until the 25th to finish and Im stuck on the damn water pump.

I hate to say it, but generally DSM's are designed such that it's faster to remove the 6 parts in front of what you're working on than to work around those same 6 parts.

However, as far as the crank pully, the accessory pully/damper on the crank is held with only 4 bolts and is very easy to remove. The crank timing belt pulley UNDERNEATH THAT pully can be a bit harder, but I don't believe is necessary to remove for a water pump removal.

Hope that helps.
