Hey guys, I recently bought a mechanical fuel pressure gauge for $40 shipped, brand new in the box carbon fiber Autometer(incase you were wondering) to match my other gauges too.
Anyways, I want it mounted in the cabin, so I can have constant input on my fuel pressure while driving. Yes, I do realize pressurized fuel runs directly to the gauge, and that's where my question derives from. The gauge requires a -4 AN line to run after tapping into the fuel line. I realize this should be mounted outside the cabin, but I personally don't think it would be a problem. I have a leftover oil feed line, that is -4AN SS braided, so I'm not too concerned about rupturing the line, or anything like that.

Question is: Do you think fumes will escape indefinately even if I used a SS braided line? I can run it up to my dash, that's not a problem, I'm just wondering if I should sell the gauge and buy an electrical one for the extra $150. (not worth it IMO) I honestly can't see the SS line having any problems with the fuel, but the smell... ???

Thanks in advance for everyone's reply! :thumb:

DMV doesn't know how the gauge works like that. There's no way. They won't make me take the assembly apart for them... Or atleast I won't take it apart for them.. LOL

I know a few people who have used mechanical fuel pressure gauges in thier cars without a problem. I would say try it.

i dont for see any problems i have an the same gauge in my cabin and i have not smelled any sort of fumes at all......i also used teflon tape around the threds on the guage so the line would not leak

If you ever want to race your car at the track, you'll be turned down.

Why do you need to so closely monitor fuel pressure anyway? A good AFPR rarely malfunctions, so you really only need to know the fuel pressure while adjusting the idle. And if you're really that concerned with it, cough up the money for an electronic unit or mount it outside the car on the hood.

that is true i tried to run my daily driver turbo 420a at bandimere and i got shoot down for that fuel pressure guage in my car.
i have been thinking about just mounting it on my fpr under my hood for that reason

I would advise against teflon tape. High quality liquid thread sealant instead (such as Loctite) - at least several drops.
