VIN tag exchange ?!?!

Just wondering (for educational purpouses only, )

Did anyone ever swap the VIN tag under the windshield? How would one do it? Remove the windshield or just the dashboard? Do you drill the rivets out with a drill or what?

Any info on this subject would be appreciated...thanks

Sounds like someone is up to something......... They are in there like that for a reason. it's gonna take alot of time and precision to get it out and back in without making it look suspect.

My purpose for swapping the dash was to get rid of the ugly peeling dash and exchange it for a good one. however 1 year later Its peeling again, but worse! I prolly shoud have kept the original vin up there, but Imessed up

I think a judge would understanding you swapping out a dash. He seems concerned ONLY about switching vin's which I can't understand why someone with good intentions would do. That's why 98RedGS want's him to explain his reasons.

I'm still waiting on you to explain why your looking to swap vins on a car that you own or that you may be "owning" soon. Give me some details on why you're wanting to do this please.

Wow, one should know better than just giving out sensitive information such as this. The internet is an unsecure place my friend, you never know who you are talking to these days.

I'm just a bit curious why you have to know this information so badly? Is there something I should know? Or is there a reason behind it?

Step 1: Remove gauges, radio, air vent housings, etc.

Step 2: Stick head in toilet.

Step 3: Flush.

Step 4: Rinse.

Step5: Repeat if desired.

Your telling us? How do you know who we are? We could be someone you don't want us to be. remember the dsm world has (if i am not mistaken) the largest online group out of all groups. My point is that we could be Janitors, teachers, lawyers, cops, cia etc. Just be carefull as to what you ask, especialy when you are new to the board.

I wanted to have swapable vin tags on an old car I had cuz i was going to get another car of the same year model and color as the one I already had. I wanted to drive both incase one wasnt working right and only pay insurance for one car.

That was a good idea with no bad intention yet still kinda sneeky

We would need to know what your purpose is. We wouldn't want to help you steal our cars or sell cars to us on false pretenses.

We love ours DSMs here and wouldnt want ppl doing bad stuff to em so what are you up to? Then maybe you can get some answers.

The vin number is also hidden in SEVERAL other places on the car

How do you think they identified the van used in the oklahoma city bombing. Switching vins is nearly impossible unless you want to replace frame members also.

That said I am not telling you where they are labeled.

With that being said, it's probably safe to assume that you are up to no good. The majority of members on this site are honest, and we also have common sense. We can see where you are going with this, so why would we even attempt to help you.

If your intentions are good then you should have no difficulty asking the Secretary of State (DMV) regarding your issue, whatever it is.

A lot of things regarding title, ownership, and VIN have been worked out since people have started restoring cars.
