I've got a SACF, 550cc injectors, stock fuel pump, FPR with gauge, 2.5" cat back no cat, big 16 turbo, hacked MAF, and a boost gauge. My ecu temp sensor ( the one on the thermostat body) is busted up, wires are gone. I cut the frayed ends of the wires and taped it up and got it out of the way, replaced that with a mechanical temp gauge. Anyway after reading on some sites I learned that not having that sensor can cause my car to run rich, which it is. I get black suit all over my floor and it smells of a dirtbike. I dont have funds for a logger, I may be able to pull off getting a low-end sunpro AF gauge if that will help. I was wondering if anyone has any good starting value's for the SAFC. I was trying to start the low and high at -5 for low rpm and -11% at high rpms but that didnt seem to help much. If anyone has some experiance just toss out some "estimated" value's I'll give them a go. Thanks ahead wisemen!

When the coolant temps are low the ECU richens the mixture, when hot it leans it out. Taking away the ECUs only method to measure temps would likely send the ECU into "safe mode" assuming the engine is cold and dumping in fuel.

I found out the above inadvertantly when my thermostat failed open, preventing my car from reaching normal operating temperature (coolant was too cool). Ran like ass, black smoke, sputtering ..etc.

Fix the temp sensor and make sure you got a 190 or so degree thermostat or your're just pissing in the wind.

Doesn't matter what your water temps are.. the ECU is blind to it without the temp sensor so it plays safe and thinks you're running way cold (hence the over richness).

Anyone got some percentage estimates then to compensate for the safe mode untill I find cash for a new sensor? (yes im that broke)

You have 550s, a "hacked" 1G MAS, a AFPR set to ? base pressure and an ECU that thinks your car never warms up.

If someone told you to lean it out x%.. they'd be talking out their butt :notgood:

Best thing to do is save up for the replacement sensor (try Gary at Mitsubishigraveyard.com for a used one).

Actully, before I make the swap which one is the ECU temp sensor? I see 2 or 3 sensors on the T/B

With the wires on my coolant temp sensor broken I was lucky to get my car started on a cold morning. When the wire is broken the ECU thinks that its at like a some crazy temperature and dumps fuel like a mo'fo'.

There lies your rich problem. Replace the sensor and wires.

One thing they used to do back in the day was have a boost responding resistor. When it the sensor sees pressure, resistance across the thing increases linearly and when you hook up a coolant temp sensor to it it tells the ECU to enrichen things. Possibly the worst form of fuel management next to none.

The coolant temp sensor is not on the throttle body. It is located on the thermostat housing. You will see 2 sensors. I don't remember which one it is, just call the dealer and tell them you want the sensor for the ECU not the gauge. When you get the new sensor you will be able to figure it out. If not, post back and I will check Alldata.

T/B was ment as Thermostat Body.

I dont not even have $10 dollars to my name, so if you could find out which one it is, that would be great.

What should my high/low be at? Im running 30 low high 80. Subtracting 9% throughut power on high and low, still running rich...Should I start with like 14% subtracted at 1k then end up with like 18-20% subtracted at 7, or should it be vise versa. Anyone know the usual correction for the difference between 450's and 550's?
