I am very new to the DSM scene and have yet to buy my car. Im getting the eclipse in june and im asking these questions now to be sure to get the right car. I've read alot about venting BOVs and problem's it causes. I understand the whole situation yet in theory if you took a GS and put a turbo on it then vented the BOV the stock ECU wouldnt be expecting the air recirculated like a GST or GSX ECU would correct? Ill be straightforward i do like the sound of a venting BOV, but in no way is it worth compromising effeciency and power.
Secondly, I've heard a good amount about crankwalk, but i dont understand exactly what it is, could someone explain that and how to check for it when looking at a car.

Thanks in advance

The turbo Eclipse's MAF (mass air flow sensor) is positioned at the turbo inlet, so all air coming into the turbo is metered. If you vent your BOV to the atmosphere, that air leaves the system and then the car takes appropriate measures because it has already accounted for that air.

The MAP sensor (more or less equivalent to the MAF) in non-turbo cars is in the intake manifold, so vented BOV air has never had a chance to be metered. Furthermore, the MAP on turbocharged RS/GSs is fooled (by either a missing link, or a fuel cut defender) into never seeing boost in the first place.

As for the crankwalk question, sorry... it's been answered far too many times before. Do a search and you'll have more information than you'll know what to do with.

turboing a gs is going to cost alot, alot of people make it sound like its a walk in the park, well its not in fact its a pain. its alot easier and cool if you buy a talon/eclipse/laser thats already turbo there would be alot more going for you, and crank walk isnt a major problem as long as the car is getting the right lubrication it needs then it is less likely to happen, and there are mods that help prevent it. as you read in some of these forums youll hear people talking about these mods alot it worth doing. the hole venting problem its easy to vent and not to expencive to do gm maft find 1 at a junk yard for like 20 bucks translator thats what ost the most but its still cheaper then a gs turbo project translator will run you anyweres from 100-250 if you can find someone selling 1 used thats cheaper. theres a whole tech article on how to properly vent you bov writen buy my friend his name on here is talondue4 its got pics and detailed instructions on how to go about this, wish you luck on make your decision.

Browse the "dead end" threads and you will find many on venting bov's and how to make them louder. Don't add another thread to the trash heap.

You don't even have your car yet. Don't you think it's more important to make it go "vroom, vroom," rather than "whoosh, whoosh?"

Thats why i was asking so i get a good idea ahead of time what im looking at getting myself into. Like i said in the initial post it is more important to me to have the car run at 100% but i just hadnt seen the senario before in all the searches id done.

Then there is no decision to be made, even though you're not losing metered air like in a MAF setup, reciculating will still help keep your turbo spooled in between shifts. If it's performance you want, there is nothing to think about on the subject of venting or recirculating your BOV.
