Vented hoods...

even on our heavily slanted hoods, heat rises up without any provocation to do so.

i had to turn on my windshield wipers when i was going 50 because there was water getting splashed all over it.

im going to do the masking tape / tufts of yarn trick and show you all that once the air goes through the radiator etc and hits the turbo/block/ex mani it goes either straight up (pictured) or straight down :thumb:

Jim, you've got it backwards.

The area at the bottom of the windshield and the back of the hood is a very high pressure area. If you lift the hood like you are saying, then air will ENTER the engine bay back there, and will have to leave elsewhere (most likely under the car).

That's why it's called "cowl induction."

Yes sorry, my mind works backwards once in a while. Anyway the high pressure causes cold air to be forced under the hood and pushing the hot air out under the car, just as you said. Regardless in our testing it dropped under hood temps big time and was a really easy mod.

As far as looks goes, you can barely even tell that this is done unless your really looking for it. Besides I don't find those cut holes in the stock hood to be very attractive personally. I would rather have a 1/2" lift than those grills in the center of the hood, looks like a Pontiac or something to me.

Regardless, it's a free mod, try it and test it. If your not happy spend the 10 mins and un-do it. Pretty easy.

I did it, it works. removed the rubber and put a lock washer between the hood and rail.. raised the hood a VERY small amount.. not noticable.. but at idle i can feel the hot air ebbing out..

keeps the window defrosted too:thumb:

I have had the back of my hood raises for quite some time now. It works well to keep the engine bay cooler. i have done tests with the air temp using my pocketlogger and sure enough the temps went down when i raised the hood. I have pics of what it looks like in my profile if anyone is interested.

I'd be worried about the engine bay getting wet with the back of the hood up like that, have any of you guys checked on that?

I did, water runs around and down the sides of the hood, not in.. (poured a glass of water across windshield..)

yea, thats quite a bit.. I used 1 2mm lock washer per bolt on mine and its not noticable at all unless maby you get down on yer knees and really examine the crap out of the edge..

That's not what I am worried about. I'm worried about more misty water at higher speeds, going down into the firewall area.
