Hi, I am in the middle of changing out the engine in my car. It is going from what is in my profile to a built 2.3L. Other upgrades going on at same time:
New Aluminium Flywheel
new organic disc for act2600
t3/t4 precision 50 trim
turbonetics cast t3 manifold
tial 38mm wastegate
victory performance t3 o2 housing
NEW JAM valve springs and titanium retainers
780 injectors

And soon after i get all this on i am upgrading to dsmlink + GM MAF from super afc and 2g MAS

I am wondering what peoples experiances are with stock valve jobs with light cams and springs on a 2.3L setup. You dont see many setups with a built 2.3 without a race head. I am sticking with the stock intake manifold for now until i upgrade the transmission. I have seen a lot of people pull good numbers off of stock valve jobs like evil eagle.

So in a nut shell is it a good idea to run stock valves on a 2.3L setup, or is it worth the 2000 to get a serious race head. Does it really give that much more horsepower in the mid/mid-high rpm range. Keep in mind i want this 100 percent streetable.

Thanks for your time and advice.

Strokers run a high volume of air through the motor at high speed due to the piston velocities. That being said, a worked head will always help increase VE and assist the flow of air. Nevertheless, I ran out of money when building mine and I'm on a completely stock 2G head and intake manifold with the exception of Comp 200's. It may not be the best setup in terms of flow, but it works. You'd do well to contact one of our sponsors that builds strokers like Buschur, SBR or FFWD and ask them if it's worth the extra expense. Most will likely say it is, but you'll have to make the decision as to whether you want to spend money in that area or on something else that will help you put more power to the ground.

I'll personally continue to run stock valves and not worry a wink about it.

Its good to know im not the only one who is running out of money putting one of these cars together. Every time i take something apart i find something i have to replace. I think i am going to stick with the stock head, maybe just do springs and retainers. thanks for the help

No worries. If you had a few extra pennies to spend, I'd do so on a great set of cams and adjustable cam gears to really dial in the spool and adjust where the power comes on.

Good luck with your project and be sure to let us know how it turns out.
