I pulled my exhaust manifold off to have it welded and noticed the exhaust port for cyl#2 had alittle "wetness" in the carbon build up. I figured well theres the leaking valve seal I knew I had. But after looking closer I noticed something. The valve guide for cyl#2 exhaust had fell down and was sitting ontop the valve :ohdamn:. I could freely slide the guide up back into place with a screwdriver and its back into place. Whats the immediate damage im looking at? I slide it all the way down and it wont slide all the way down and out of the guide bore, which would possibly cause a binding situation. I didnt wanna take the head off but the cars in pieces anyway. Thanks

edit: Just to be more specific. Its the first exhaust valve (closer to cam gears) in cyl#2. The head is built (ported, polished) With Crower cams, springs, and retainers. I have no clue on specifics because I bought it this way. Sorry about the title mispelling.

you arew looking at removing the head and inspecting it to see if new guides can be pressed into the head all to common the damage is so bad new guides wont stay in the head (due to galling from the floating guide)requirin it to be replaced or so serious macine shop work if it worth it

It needs to be fixed, or it will continue to beat the shit out of stuff until the head comes off the valve, and your whole engine is destroyed.

If your lucky a good machine shop can bore the hole straight again, and fit an oversize guide. If not, better start looking for a new head.

Yup, agreed.

Oversized would be the easiest. Simple fix for a good machine shop.
