I have tried searches and vfaq but I need help. My Talon has had most of the emission lines removed. EGR, no lines. Thermovalve, no lines. PCV, no lines.
I have a dejon intake pipe which only has the BOV going to it. I have never heard of any advantage in removeing the PCV? The valve cover has a small filter on the big nipple left end. direcion, information appreciated. Oh taboo has pics but hard to see on webtv. it looks like the PCV is removed! thanks

Yes the small filter is a breather in place of what must have been a hose venting the engine to the original intake hose that would then send those vapours to be burned.
I have a question on why the PCV would be disconnected.
From the Taboo site it seems as though it is done but why? Is it something particular to these motors? I don't believe that the PCV even operates under WOT. Never heard of anyone taking a PCV out of operation on any car before.
I have read that the EGR does not operate under WOT either but that it aids fuel economy when it is operating. What's the scoop?
I was hoping for pics on VFAQ but could not find anything. Thanks, Mark

Removing the pcv eliminates the oil being pulled into the intake manifold when at idle. Burned oil creates carbon which creates hotspots which in turn leads to detonation(knock)

Removing or disableing the egr eliminates carbon in the intake and combustion chamber which can create hotspots leading to the same result. I hope this answers you q sufficiently.

Doesn't the PCV remove crud that gets into the crankcase from blowby from the combustion chamber? Sounds that if it is not functioning oil could get contaminated quicker. I am asking because I found that my '93 has both the EGR & PCV hoses removed. Never heard of that PCV removal bfore!

You should definitely hook back up the PCV line, but just put a plastic fuel filter or another catch can in the line to catch the oil vapors. Keep the EGR disconnected and you should be good to go.

OK. The npple o the end of the valve cover must be where on end of this lin should go. Where does it access the intake? My PCV valve has only one large line open to the atmosphere. there are 3 lines without anything on them. ne facing towards the front of the car and 2 facing the engine. Almost there! little more help. Thanks, Mark

Let me try to be clear! I do have the PCV hose as circled. When looking at the hose routing as pictured on the diagram under the hood it shows PCV which must be a PCV solenoid? It has a check valve on the back side of it. It is located under the battery. The check valve has a nipple but no hose. Is it supposed to be open to the atmosphere? I would think so since it's a check valve. The section in front identifed as PCV on the diagram has 2 small nipples with nothing on them on my car. There is a bigger hose(3/8's) on one larger nipple. This hose just hangs on my tranny not going anywhere?
Also in the pic is another solenoid that seems to be near the FPR solenoid but I cannot locate it.
Also the thermovalve has no lines. I forgot what that does. If I had a car that was stock to compare to I would know if anything is missing and where the lines should run. EGR has no lines either and I have heard that having the EGR operational would help gas mileage.
I hope I am easier to understand here! Mark

Ohh... ok. Sounds like we are getting pcv (positive crankcase ventilation) and pcv (purge control valve) confused. Ok... so you say the purge control valve with 2 nipples is not connected to anything. The check valve you talk of should have a line on it. That would be dealing with your charcoal cannister which is under the battery. Is the charcoal cannister even there anymore?

As for the fuel pressure solenoid, it sould only be connected to the intake mani, and the fuel pressure regulator on the end of the fuel rail.

It is true that you will gain a couple miles per gallon with the egr functioning. If you have no vac lines at all anymore, it sounds like you are going to need to make a friend with a 1G so you can compare... because those diagrams under the hood and taboospeedshop are pretty hard to make sense of.

That's it! dummy me saw pcv and assumed! Well I will have to look closer to see if the canister is there. the purge valve is more out under the fuel filter. The drawing shows another solenoid next to the FPR one but I can't find it. OK. PCV is working it seems. I would like to grt thr egr hooked, mileage these days is a premuim, like the fuel! Perhaps I can figure that ot. Isn't the purge valve hooked to the thermovalve so it will only purge when the engine is hot enough? Thanks so much for discovering my mistake.Mark
Now I need to find out how to load my palmwith the Mitsu info so Im can start logging. That's next when the guy wh sold it to me helps out. I'm computer illiterate. Hiow do you change the timing on these?

You can adjust base timing by jumping a certain connector to ground and rotating the CAS (cam angle sensor, left side of the valve cover). Usually, it's just set to 5* BTDC - I wouldn't recommend changing it too much unless you really know what you're doing.

Timing on DSMs is not static like a distributor-based car, it's controlled by the ECU. The ECU radically advances timing advance (30-35+*) during low-load times like deceleration and idle and decreases timing advance (15-20+*) during high-load times like WOT pulls.

The ECU, as a safety measure, will further reduce timing, sometimes down to 0* if it is detecting knocking or pinging from the detonation sensor.

I,just need to check it first. Still have to grond something for that? I got a logger and palm but can't load the palm with a hotsync, it says dat not backed up? Also the install doc. won't access due to coruption! WOW.Mark

Yes, you'll need to ground the jumper in order to set the base timing.

Sounds like your Palm might be screwed... :(
