I can't figure out which is the correct path since I just bought this 92 AWD FEDERAL car and need to smog it here in CA. The 2 lines that are confusing me are Yellow and the Green middle vacuum lines. Can anyone look under their hood or verify the correct vacuum path?

Here is what the PDF Shop Manual says:

Lastly, the Thermo Valve on the thermostat housing is broke. Has anyone bypassed this valve and idled correctly? Currently since it's broke I've bypassed it and my idle seems to want to surge after warm up. This is the "Decel Surge", where the idle raises but since the ECU detects the throttle position at 0%, it cuts the idle off causing it to fall. When I cap off the TB vacuum nipples, the idle just constantly climbs and levels off at 2k rpms. Any help is appreciated.

As far as the diagrams go either way will work correctly because if you noticed the EGR and Thermo valve are hooked up exactly the same. The only thing different is the vacuum source, both of those ports on the TB will provide the correct source.

well as far as vacuum lines, both of those diagrams will work.......the source will still be the same.....

the only thing you have to watch out for is to hook up the vacuum lines to the egr valve the correct way, or else the egr valve wont open up when its supposed to, causing a bit less mpg.

If you want, I can meet you up around Sacramento sometime and show you mine so you can route it the same way.

So long as it was built as a Federal car, that's how it gets smogged here. You don't need to change anything. If a shop is telling you it needs changing, report them to the Bureau of Automotive Repair and the California Air Resources Board both.

"What are the differences between Federal cars and California (CA) cars?
CA cars have more stringent emissions requirements than Federal cars, so they have a couple of extra pieces of equipment. An exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) solenoid valve is installed on CA cars next to the fuel pressure solenoid valve, while Federal cars have a empty space there. 1G CA ECUs are programmed slightly differently than Federal ECUs, making it problematic to switch ECUs from car to car without getting error codes.

To add to the confusion, all 1994 USA DSMs had California emissions, meaning there are technically no Federal 1994 cars. This prevents 1994 owners from installing an EGR blockoff plate, as the CA-style ECU is smart enough to notice and flag an error code. This requires the substitution of a 92-93 Federal ECU for the original CA ECU.

[Other changes to be added.]

Other than that, there are no differences between Federal and CA cars."

Sweet I'll just go by what's under the hood then. This beetch better pass emmissions

Yeah that was one of my concerns since I wasn't sure if the 2 sources were the same. One of the diagrams has the top nipple leading to the bottom of the egr and the other is reverse. Anyway, if it shouldn't matter, then I'll just go by the 2nd map. Thanks :thumb:

On the diagram above, I have a slightly different vacumn nipples on my JDM Cyclone intake manifold. There are 3 nipples on it instead of 2. One of it is being used for the BOV.

Which should I tap to by-pass the Fuel Pressure Solenoid to the FPR?
