using a/c fan as radiator fan

My stock radiator fan doesn't fit anymore since I used a certain j-pipe. Can I just plug my a/c fan in to the radiator fan plug? That way it would come on when thee engine gets to a certain temp. The two fans seem to have the same plug.

Yes, it would work just fine. The radiator does not know the difference. There is secondary cooling by the extra fan for the a/c condenser to operate. Tres...

You have to do a little hacking on the fan housing for it to fit properly but it works wonderfully.

I know money can be an issue, but I have used Flex-a-lite slim lines with thier adjustable thermostat kit, (Granted it was on a 2001 GMC Truck) but they are very easy to install, and not horrible in price. Flex-a-lite has a 2 blade 12 inch kit for 1g's but its like $380, or you could go with one 12 inch trimline at about 80 bucks plus whatever you decide to use for a controller. Check out thier website for specs. Sorry if this sounds like an advertisement for flex-a-lite but like I said, I've used them with good results.

Sorry, saw it was a 2G, but same still applies, 12 inch should be fine, and a kit is still available for about the same price.

ok well it didnt come on so i think the motors dead. unless i plugged it in upside down or something. the ac fan doesnt even come on when i turn the ac on (when the ac fan is plugged in to the ac plug). my ac compresser doesnt work though, so idk. I guess ill have to play with my setup, maybe buy a slimfan.

I use my a/c fan as the primary(and only) fan in my car and it works just fine, plugged it in let it get to operating temp and watch to see if it comes on. If it doesn't come on the your fan might be broken.

hook direct power to the fan motor via jumper wires from the battery and see if it comes on. If the fan does not then it is shot, if it does then it may be a relay or something. just a place to start.

where on the fan do i attch the cables? do i take a cover off of the motor or something? thanks

You are to just unplug the fan from the car's harness and take a hot and negative wire from the battery and push the tips of wire into the fan's plug. You do not have to take anything apart to test the fan.

anyone use both fans to work off coolant instead of a/c for those who have no a/c? just wondering if it would be too much of a strain on the wiring and relay to do this? if so would slim fans draw less current and be safe to run 2?

^^^ I tried this a while ago... burnt 2 relays then decided it was just a lost cause.
