What rod bearings do you use? I need the answer asap please, thanks!

That's some thing I would do. 6bolt rods are 600whp rods (with a decent tune). They are cheap to get on a 7bolt crank. Most machine shops are equipped to take down the width of the big end.

Print this up and give it to your machinist:

If that is already done, then as mentioned above, use the 2g bearings. . .

Great! ^^^

Thank you so much for that

Not to argue with anybody here but I was researching this for my build and was told by a very reputable DSM shop here that there are no HUGE differences. Although the 1g rods appear beefier they have not actually been proven tensile strength wise to hold up any better than the 2gs. They have a car running deep into the 9's right now and know their shit. They are the only DSM shop in the state that I know of so I took it for what it was and am going back together with the 2g rods BUT Im not shooting for anything over 400 on a DD....

Just some food for thought.

Well i have seen 2g pistons banana up and i have seen the rod break in half and send the piston into the pan.. I have never once seen a 1g piston warped in way close to what i have seen with the 2g..

Engine go boom - This was the death of my stock 7-bolt shortblock. Overboost. DSMtuners Gallery

Have you ever seen 1g rods do that???

Like I said, this was what I was told from a reputable shop when I said I was looking at around 400hp. I dont think RAD is going for anything extreme on his setup that is why I made sure to notate that at the end of my post!

And you would be surprised how many different prices I got on have the 1g rods machined

^^^ Price comparing never hurts anyone :p . There are many machine shops that can cut down the 6bolt rod for very much less than buying a forged rod.

We've seen 6bolt rods go to 600whp on several occasions. We've seen 7bolt rods buckle by guys trying to see 550. And no one has taken a stock 7bolt and matched what a 6bolt has done yet. So the tensile strength is proven. I wouldn't bother upgrading the internals for a 500whp setup if you have a 6bolt block. Too many have done more than that with it. But too many have blown the 7bolt at such a level. What reputable shop was this?

Also the rods bolts are made of the same material with the same process, but are MUCHO thicker. How can they not be stronger? Again, if we get the name of this reputable shop it will lend to supporting the 2g rod as being equal to the 1g. But then again, real world proof to the contrary is all over the place.

The machining is costing me next to nothing, so if I kept them uncut, I could use 6 bolt bearings right?

I'm looking to get as much out of the motor I can with an HX-35, so I have high hopes for the rods.

no. the 6 bolt bearings will not fit in the narrow width of the 7 bolt rod journal. you must use the 7bolt bearings which are narrower.

So I have a question about the retainer slot. Since the 1g is 0.157 and the 2g is 0.115, will that gap be a problem?
