The tranny in my fwd is going out, along with the recent failure of my TOB which messed up my pressure plate also. I have a guy here in Austin thats selling a pretty nice AWD shell with two used transfer cases and a used tranny. Has a couple minor things done to it like upgraded motor mount and tranny mounts and hes also throwing in two carbeau racing seats and a maft with a 3" gm maf. All for 500 bucks, clean title and he says that the tranny shifted smooth when pulled out and one transfer case he knows works but the other he doesnt know. Not sure the mileage on any of them, so the condition isnt really known other then it shifted smooth. Just going to drop the engine I have in my FWD into this AWD.

This is going to be a DD, so what i'm thinking is with the AWD of course there are more moving parts so obviously it is a little less reliable. Which is the biggest concern I have, but I know an AWD is a little more fun.

Or I could just keep my current fwd, buy a rebuilt Tre Transmission, new TOB and upgrade my clutch for about the same price as getting the AWD. BUT the AWD will have a used tranmission blah blah blah.

What would yall do?

I would give up my fwd in a heart beat if I could find a awd for that cheap LOL. I would get the awd drop your motor in it, then find a cheap stock 4g63 and drop in you fwd to either sale or keep as a back up.

What year is the new shell? Well, more importantly, does it have a 4 bolt rear end (later 92-94)?
Either way $500 may be a little on the high side with only a trans and 2 transfer cases. Never hurt to ask if he will take $325-400 max.

Yea its a 1990-1991 I can tell from the flip up head lights. Its a pretty clean shell and its got a 4 bolt rear end swap from a 93 talon. I was gunnna ask if he'd take 400. Thats probably the route im going to take. Ill probably be on my way to tow it home here in the next hour or so. Ill post pics after I get it. Still would like input from anyone wanting to chime in. Thanks for everyone who has already
