Upper intercooler piping for HKS BOV setup

I have the stock SMIC and I would like to buy an upper and lower IC piping set, but I have the HKS SSQV BOV and I don't see many that have a pre-fab flange for the HKS other than Dejon. I like the Dejon intake, but I have read that not many people like the piping that connects to the TB because its too thin.

Any other options that are similar to say the Greddy upper piping that will work with my HKS?

If you have an type of fabrication skills or know anyone who does you could just buy the Greddy intercooler piping you want and buy the HKS flange from Extreme PSI and weld it on. Also, Stillen used to make a 2.5" UICP that a Blitz or HKS would bolt to. I bought one for my gst when I first started building it. The only problem with it was similar to the RRE UICP. You had to reuse the stock rubber portion between the bov - tb. Plus I don't know that they even make it anymore. They've been discontinuing most of their dsm parts over the last couple of years. The Greddy piece is a complete hard pipe from SMIC - TB.
 
Dejon is fine. I have the dejon pipes and they work great. He has even made the TB area of the pipe thicker. Go for it.

So all the complaints about the thinner flange have been addressed by Dejon? If that's the case, then it makes the decision easier, but I still like having options, so any further suggestions would be awesome.

BTW, is the install fairly easy?
 
Yes the install is easy. Unless your stock sidemount is corraded at the end tanks. Which then it will take you alittle longer cause it will usually cause boost leaks.
 
What would be the suggestion to avoid further leaks when you install the new piping?

I was hoping I wouldnt run into this problem when I did my UICP but I did. What I did was pulled the SMIC out and went to the local auto parts store and got some JB weld. Thats all I did was put the JB weld on the end tanks to smooth the whole thing out. Let it dry and then put it all back together.

You will beable to notice right away once you take off the old ICP if your end tanks are corroded or not.
 
I just did this install two days ago. Got the pipes used off eBay for a discount. Put in the Dejon LICP and UICP piece from the SMIC outlet through the BOV flange. I also have the HKS SSQV. I don't have the piece going from the BOV to the throttle body yet and am debeting whether to get it.

The install was a lot longer than I anticipated. All of the plastic clip/screw things are a pain, but the hardest problem I had was getting the stock UICP off. There are two bolts under the relay that connect it to the body and there are lines running right over the bolts so getting to them is quite difficult. Needless to it takes a lot of patients and I'd suggest getting a racheting wrench for those bolts. Putting the hard pipes on was much easier than taking the stock pieces off. Since you have the HKS BOV you know how much fun dealing with the C-clip is.

I do now have a boost leak somewhere and haven't built a tester yet to find and fix it, so I can't say how much of an improvment I've noticed yet, but hopefully in the next few days I can get it all ship shape.

Great, wonderful news LOL I was hoping it wouldn't be a pain, but it sounds like the pain was more getting the old off instead of the new on. Let me know what you find out about your leak as I would like to avoid any if possible. Also, did you put your HKS on the piping prior to installing the pipe or did you have the pipe in place first. Also, with the new UICP, were you still using the stock recirculation hose?
 
Save yourself time and a headache and build a boost leak tester before you do you ICP. You should always do a boost leak test after changing or disconnecting UICP and LICP.
 
I'm actually wondering what the true gains are by installing UICP and LICP for a sidemount when I have plans in the future (not sure when..obviously $ related but also I want to get fuel mods done first) to do the FMIC. I didn't really see much on this when I searched
 
Not sure whether the gains are in the pipe, or just the ability to get rid of the stock plastic POS BOV, but I had good results with them. 13.7 on an entirely stock car, aside from the Greddy pipes, Type-S BOV, Injen intake, and an MBC. That's a second and a half off the stock times.

I would wait until you had a larger turbo to go with an FMIC. Even the 16g doesn't do too bad with the SMIC. I rigged up an IC sprayer when I was still running it.

The pain is definitely in getting the old stuff off and not the new stuff on. I did put my BOV on the pipe prior to installing the pipe and guessed at the angle. As long as you get it close, it doesn't matter. I'm also still using the stock recirc hose. I have the HKS recirc kit, but the adapter to the intake pipe doesn't fit my pipe so I just reused the stock recirc hose.
