up and down temp

my engine has been staying in the middle of the gauge but yesterday i as driving and i would see it rise alittle above and then go back down alittle but then the gauge needle went just above the little water sign and go back down, it will rise kinda fast and then go down real fast. i have a new water pump, new thermastat, new head gasket, and new full coolant. so why is this happening? coolant temp sensor?

Fans turning on/off intermittently or your varying speeds, or the tstat is around a 190* my best guess.

FYI, the stock guage is ####ing worthless.

+1 on the garbage stock gauge.....

i had an issue like that and it turned out to be that i didn't get all the air out of the system.
did you remove the cap and let the car run till all the bubbles stop?

Mine does the same thing.
I think my thermastat is stuck open, cause it takes forever to warm up.
Since you have a new thermastat, I would think you have air in the coolent system.
get those air bubbles out of the hose/

It will do that when there is a bubble in the system. I had the same symptom and I just added coolant and it stopped.

i ran the car with out the rad cap and added coolant and it hasent happen again so i hope that fixed it.

ok so got one a t stat from napa i let the car run for 10mins and it opened. awsome. so then i let it run alittle longer and the fans come on. even better but then i driving down the road and the damn temp gauge is still going up and down, what the shit. so then i put a meat thermometer(reads between -58 and 300) on to the head, right in front on the side alttle bit and it starts to go up t0 200, 205, 210 then at 212 the fans kicked on and it went back down to 200 so then i look at the gauge and its still saying 3/4 the way to hot. what is wrong with this damn car?

I know this is an old thread but did you ever resolve this issue? I'm experiencing the same symptoms on a spyder I recently acquired. I drive the gauge goes up slowly, as soon as I idle the vehicle the gauge goes back down to normal. Almost males menthinknthe gauge is bad.
