I have a 1991 gsx, and am currently replacing the carrier bearings. While the driveshaft is out, I want to replace the universal joints. The car is a project car, and was hoping to get something a little more beefy. After calling a local dealership, they quoted me $110 a piece for stock, which seems rediculous to me. does anyone know where to get u joints reasonable. Would perfer something stronger. Price isn't my main concern, but there is a line between reasonable and rediculous.

Thanks.

Ray.

I just went thru this myself last month. I also had a bit of trouble finding parts and had to resort buying certain items from the mitsu dealer. Here is a rundown of the parts I bought:

x2 carrier bearings from machv - $84.00 each
x1 driveshaft yoke (tcase) from machv - $43.00
x2 spicers from mitsu dealer - $79.00 each
x1 tcase seal from mitsu dealer - less than $10.00
x1 rear diff seal from mitsu dealer - less than $10.00

I performed all the work myself (very easy job) for the exception of pressing out/in the spicers and installing and removing the carrier bearings from the driveshaft.
I paid a local machine shop (Six States) to do this for me since I didn't have a 2 ton press / pullers and it only cost me $36 and save hours in headaches.

During the reinstall I noticed the rubber bushings that support the driveshaft were no good and needed to be replaced. So I ordered these from the mitsu dealer along with the four bolts/washers/nuts that go to the rear diff.

My only advice is to do the job right...Replace the worn parts and don't make compromises. I've read threads of people filling their worn out carrier bearings with silicone and other crazy stuff...Don't be a moron and do it right...Good luck!

what origionally started this undertaking was a bad transfer case, so the driveshaft came out, and newly rebuilt T.case went in, and since this car is going to see more action at the strip than on the street, i am going to replace with parts, not silicon. Thanks RAY..

Damn those are crazy high prices, I did everything you did and more, and I spent less than $250. Buying the U-joints is probably what made the price so high, if you just buy a 3 transfer case recall kits you save over $120. The whole kit is $30 and comes with a U-joint.

I did pay a bit on the high side but the carrier bearings were somewhat hard to find - the dealer wanted 15 bucks more than mach v...As far as the spicers go, I wanted to use oem mitsu stuff. CarQuest had them for 40 bucks less but i didnt want to take any chances.

There are other places on the net that sell the factory parts for a lot cheaper than that. Look around a bit and you'll see what I'm talking about.
