You're right, he wouldn't put it on his crank if he thought it would damage it but it is apparent that, like yourself, Doug is ignorant (not stupid but ignorant) to the real forces at work here.
Help me out here because I need to better understand the level you are at mechanically so I might better explain myself and allow you to understand the point I am laboring to make. Have you ever had your motor apart? Are you familliar with resonance in systems?

As stated, Google is your friend. some of you guys could use to do some reading.....

well im not incredibly great but i have a good idea. i will be going to college next year as an auto major, but now am still just in highschool auto class. ive taken many engines in the shop apart, and have done all the work on my car myself with the exception of the cat-back exauste. does that give you an idea?
