I was looking at putting some lights under my car, but im told that some colors are not allowed to be put in or under your car. I have heard many rumors about Red, Purple, Blue not being allowed to be used. Can anyone help me out here on whats allowed and whats not allowed?

Talk to your local police department.

Also, you might want to have them lock you up for being a ricer. Just because they did it in a movie, yO, doesn't mean you should do it too.

LOL... just cause i do it doesnt mean i want to cause i saw it in a movie. i personally just think it adds "favour" while riding at night

but none the less.. thanks for the info

Well your name ... 2Fast4Yall ... combined with your question... combined with your inability to spell what I can only guess is "flavor"... is it any wonder he associated you with that horrible excuse for a movie?

Either way this is probably a non-performance related question and could probably be answered in the appropriate forum. :thumb:

Well one thing i know for sure is in california at least its 100% illegal to actually drive with them on, reguardless of where there placed.
Only legal when your parked, though as for specific colors being illegal i dont know.

Here in Alabama it's illegal to have them on at night if the actual light stick thing is visible. For instance, one guy I know got a $120 ticket for there being a neon light INSIDE his car right on top of the dashboard while his car was on sitting in a parking lot. I'm sure it will be just as bad, if not worse, if you get pulled over for having them on underneath the car! :thumbdown

here in cali ive heard many different laws about lights. some cops i have talked to say its legal as long as the bulb is not showing. some others say its legal if only 20 square inches of light is emitted to the ground for each bulb(meaning each kit is illegal). some also say that red and blue are illegal cause its cop colors, but the cali law only states that only white or amber can be facing the forward and rear of the car, and red from the rear, nothing about under the car.

but rule of thumb is dont drive with them on. more than likely if you get pulled for having them on, the cop will do a "routine inspection" and find all your modified intakes and excessively loud exhausts, so the undercars will be the least of your problems. possibly you can get towed away for them, i heard many horror stories about people using them and getting towed when the kits first started appearing(years before fast and furious).

and dsmayhem there is no need to flame the guy. youre comments were not needed at all. if he wants to add some spice to his car its his decision. i have undercars and i loved fast and the furious(not 2f2f though that was just ghey) so does that make me a ricer? besides, i had undercars on my 94 tbird about a year before fast and the furious came out, JCwhitney/crutchfield used to sell the kits from streetglow for 300 in their "sport truck" section. yeah i had green undercars on a black V8 tbird, yeah theres some rice. so leave your fast and furious comments out of this.

i have them on my car i love them, i got pulled over with them on and led lights(blue) he just said if i see them agian i will give u a ticket but what r the chances of seeing the same cop again.. i live in NY and the ONLY color legal is white ;)

I wasn't flaming him, but thanks for the attention to detail. I was simply explaining to him why kpt probably came back with the 2f2f comment. I did however point out that he would probably get more answers in the correct thread.

around here ANY light under your car is illegal. if they (the actual light bulb or source of light) is not visible its illegal and an automatic 90 dollar fine, higher on your second offence. you can have them on when parked and such, and be any color, but as for driving, no lights under car. seems it depends alot on state and such...id ask the local cops or law enforcement people

i thought the law was you could have any kind of lighting on your car you want.... you just cant drive with them on, like strobes, if ur parked in a parking lot u can use them, under car neons u can have them any color but u cant drive with them, the law being its a distraction to other drivers and a hazard. least thats how it goes around here. And usualy when we do see someone around here with the under car neons.... we just laff and say ha what an #$%* but if u like it do what u want

IMO, spend your money on making your car look better, not worse.

IMO, spend your time not being a jackass. Let people put whatever they want on their car. He wasn't asking your opinion.

hey hey hey im playin fair i said if you want to do it do it, i didnt say hey your ### dont put it on or nuttin, everyone has their own cup of tea, mine happens be non lightend.... ok bad joke LOL. and yeah i know i dont got no turbo but uhhhhhhhh i got a shiney car

after talking with the local pigs, i have decided not to get them and instead put my money towards my greedy type-s BOV which i ordered today. Still would have liked to have them tho =(

Ok guys.... lets try to be a little mature about this.

1st - Its your car, do what you like. You will get a lot of critisism on here, so if you don't like it, don't post.

2nd - I have underlights on my car. 7 color LED. I think I've drove with them on once or twice, but not very often. I usually turn them on in a parking lot or something. I don't need extra attention to my car. Cops like to follow me enough.

I looked into this extensively for the state of MI. Driving with the underbody kits on is illegal. Using them while "off-road" is legal. We are only allowed to have clear or orange light emmitting from the front of the car. White light from the sides, and red from the rear. So, technically, if you were using a mixed kit, it could be legal, but IMO, it would look ghay. Many states I drive through allow them in any color (last I checked). I always have mine on when I'm in IL and IN. Just thought I'd share that stuff. :thumb:

As far as "ricer" comments go..... This is the NON-PERFORMANCE section. If you hate ricers, you dont belong here! If you dont like it, go find another section/forum. :dsm:

Non-Performance does not imply rice. That's like calling everyone in a car show a ricer. And I don't hate ricers, I only hate to see a DSM ruined, mocked, or neglected because of its appearance. And I think most respectable show car owners would agree on what not to do to a car. Some visual mods sounds cool at first, but after time you realize what you've done and some people need to be told this before they make the mistake of waisting their money. I realize everyone has their own taste and if I offended anyone off, my apologies.

I agree. But all he asked was "is it legal" not "do you like it". And who is to say it's "ruined". It's his car, and you call it "ruining" while some consider it "improving". It's all a matter of opinion. ;)

Appology accepted. :thumb:

P.S. - Most HIN show cars have underbody neon lights, so you are right - most respectable show car owners would agree on what not to do to a car. :thumb:

be like me and go wit an ICE Led neon kit over 2 million different colors, if ya get pulled over for a color like red just change it LOL :dsm: :dsm: :dsm: :dsm:

fast and the furious should have nothing to do with neon underbody lights.....those things were out looooong before that movie...i remember having blue ones under my 95 mustang the summer before that movie came out....when iwent to see the movie i was like the coolest kid there cause i was the only one with em....then everyone got em...i think after the second movie came out ppl associated them w/ 2f2f and started to hate neon anything....calling it ricer....its not....shit old school 30's hotrods use em...they make you stand out...if you laugh at em next time u see a set under someones car....just remember....u were the kid back in the day that wanted to be me the night after fast and the furious came out ......i got so many phone numbers that nite LOL...

Dammit! I wanna be the resident "ricer"!!! LOL not really, but I am a lil ricey. I agree with Ryans99OZ, I used to have aneon antenna and neon headlights on my Mirage, b4 FnF came out and it was the shizzy. Everybody dug them, then FnF came out and even more ppl noticed. Neons have been around a LOT longer than a lot of ppl realize. In fact, after I get my talon repainted, you can bet I'll have some undercars on it. You know why? Cause it makes the car get noticed. Here in PA, its not always a good thing, which is why you don't drive with them on. But seeing as how I wanna put it in some shows, I'm gonna do what I can to make the car not just stand out, but stand out in a GOOD way. It all comes down to preferance. If you wanna be "ricey" then Rice On! But when I have my kit on, remember I've also got the "fast" to back up my "furious"...

Oh wait... he just wanted to know what was legal... driving no, parking yes. At least in PA. But there's also my $.02 on being ricey...

P.S. - The new LED kits are 100 times better than the old convential bulbs. :thumb:

This is my front bulb after my little collision. It's busted up pretty bad, but it still works. This is why the LED kits are better. They can look like this and still function, whereas the old bulbs would get a little crack and stop working. :thumb:

Guys - keep the subject off of "rice" or this will be locked. :dsm:
