Ugly painted interior

I bought new plastic interior peices for my eclipse. they are orinally grey but where painted some ugle white color. What method or products do you guys recomend to remove this crappy looking paint. I HATE when people have to go and chance the interior. I can understand if its grey, tan, or black, but white???? Com'n now It look nothing but riced out. Help me out tuners.

Its crazy what a can of $1 spray paint can do to those plastic pieces. Black seems to have the best look though

Yea i know, i read on google to spray it with break cleaner or paint thinner, i fell like those chemicals will harm the finish of the panels, they even painted the black door panels. They must of been smoking good stuff when the decided to go with some ugly white paint scheme. You think i should paint them all black?? even the panels under the dash(usally grey or tan)?? Anyone else got any input?

yea i would but some paint is chipped away, and its not gonna be an even coat, Im gonna try to get the wack ass paint off first. Hopefully some one can hook me up with a "trick of the trade" and tell me what to use to get rid of that crappy paint.

Try some type of orange cleaner. Thinner might eat away at the plastic.

There is some stuff I use called "Citrol" from a company called Schaeffer it works good or you could try some general purpose adhesive cleaner from 3M. But i am not sure if it would harm the plastic. You might want to try that on a corner you wont see just in case.

why not just paint OVER the white with what ever color you really want?

or do you just want the original plastics' color?

I think he wants to remove the old paint because it is chipping away. I would clean it a bit, take off the paint I could and just repaint it again.

If you are fixing to repaint it, you could always just sand the pieces to get the paint off. You will need a slightly rough surface to start with if you are planning to repaint anyways..

I wiped down all my interior pieces that I was going to paint with paint thinner before I painted them and it didnt damage any of them. I used to on plastics and the dash and door panels. But if your trying to soak it in paint thinner it may ruin it.

A friend of mine borrowed a soda blaster and got a bunch of paint off his dash in his dodge pickup. Looks just like new. Might be hard to find but worked great and didn't hurt anything it wasn't supposed to. Cover up or remove electronics like the cd player.
Five gallon paint bucket with an open rear glass and having to slam on your brakes is a good reason to paint your dash white. But other than that ?

go to autozone, strauss or whatever car parts store that would sell spray paint buy Primer spray, Matte Black spray, and Clear coat spray... first primer, let it sit and dry... spray matte black at least 2 - 3 dry coats, then clear coat it at least 3- 5 dry coats to protect the black from when cleaning or marks this idea works great on anything u paint.. i promise..

Don't re-paint your interrior, it will look like crap. A lot like the white paint. Dye it if you want a color change. Dye wont chip off or fade like paint will.

No, im trying so get rid of the paint to i can have the original finish, i think painted stuff looks chessy! I want the original look and finish

Im well aware about how to paint stuff, i agree with talipse96 I want the original stuff, i hate painted interior, im sure it will look like crap if i paint them again. Im just trying to get the paint off and have them grey again.

If its not to thick try rubbing alcohol and a scotchbrite pad.

Do you know if it is worth your time? If somebody painted it they might have scuffed up the plastic to get it to stick. There is paint thinner out there that will not hurt plastic. Somebody makes paint thinner for plastic models so there has to be some that you can buy. You just need to find it. All I'm finding is regular paint thinner.

I think the guy with the soda blaster idea had something. Take the panels out and blast them with a media such as walnut shells or something.

take some thinner to the inside of one of the pieces that you don't plan on keeping first and see what happens. then let the piece sit for a day or two just to make sure nothing changes and there is no delayed reaction. if it turns soft or really dulls the plastic you might want to think about getting some different interior pieces.

if you are worried about messing the plastic up or the finish why not just go to a scrapyard and get some different ones?

whoever had the car before me painted them. They painted them horibbly, did not prep or prime so the paint just flakes off, i cleaned one completely with my finger nail , it took for ever but the panels are in great shape. Buying new ones is last resort, How much whould the go for anyway??
