So, I just bought a 99 Eclipse GST with some high mileage. Being this is my 4th Mitsu to own (2nd turbo'd) I know that each mold of mitsu has it's own little quirks and most common problems. I am looking for an informative heads up on what I can expect as far as problems I WILL PROBABLY encounter. Please be serious.

My GST is mostly stock. Exhaust and BOV only. So, knowing that my engine has not undergone any additional stress from some kid getting crazy with mods...

What can I expect out of my GST? Goods, bads...harmless downfalls?

Thanks:thumb:

Ill tell you what change the timing belt with a kavalar one, change your spark plugs, change head and valve cover gasket and do a boost leak test then you should be good for a while

If you keep up on the "up keep" of the car you should be fine.....
But once you start adding mods to the car... And you will that is when the problems begin.... So the 1st mod you make should be the block!! Start of right and build from there!! STRONG PISTONS AND RODS!:hellyeah::thumb:

Hehe, I understand where you're coming from...and yes, I have mod plans for my GST. However, I have a 92 3000GT VR4 awaiting a block rebuild and it's been waiting longer. :nono: The eclipse is supposed to be my nice looking, little faster than stock daily driver. The VR4 is gonna be my monster. :sneaky:

Thanks for the input, seems upkeep is getting the majority vote right now. Will have to jump right on to that. Still trying to solve a couple problems it has from the previous owner.

Compression test, boost leak test, timing belt, check for oil leaks anywhere. Check for dry rotted vaccum hoses. Turbo shaft play, flush the trans... If everything is done and checks out then there's no need for a rebuild of any kind. How many miles are on the car?

178,XXX :shhh:

Also, as a FYI here are the things I KNOW are wrong with it...

Suspension is making horrible noises and probably need replacing all together
Brakes/discs vibrate when braking lightly, but not when braking hard. Warped rotors?
Front bumper has been scraped alot and there is a bumper support bracket hanging from underneath it that needs removal.
Possible small power steering leak
Rough clutch action
Tire(s) quality (slight vibration at certain speeds. Figure either needs balanced or theres a knot)
IAC needs cleaning or replaced

Sounds like alot, but luckily it's all mostly little things here and there so far. *knocking on wood*
