Looking for a new DD? This looks like it will be pretty fun! I have not found any engine shots yet to see how it's laid out, so post up if you find any. The engine is a tiny 1.4L, but 158hp isn't bad for that! It'll be interesting to see what can be wrung out of this with a few bolt-ons once these hit the market.

We also drove the effervescent little 158bhp 1.4-litre TSI, which is amazingly strong and refined at low revs and positively bubbly when you push close to its 6,400rpm red line. While the 120bhp turbocharged version is pleasant enough, the supercharged and turbocharged TSI is a box of firecrackers. It's as if VW has thrown engineering at this car in a way that only Honda could match. It's virtually impossible to tell when the supercharger cuts out and the turbo cuts in, and the urgent push of the engine is smooth and linear. It's also astonishingly quiet; you might notice a bit of air flutter around the mirrors but then you notice that you're on the licence-losing side of 100mph. With a seven-speed DSG 'box and all the extra engine ancillaries, the TSI doesn't weigh much less than the diesel, but it rides lighter on its wheels and points into corners with more alacrity.
