Twin turbo? [Merged 11-6]

Hos - I am from Markham, just north of T.O. Magnus Motorsports is a great place to go. They have 3 500+WHP DSM's and various 400+WHP RX 7's. They know there #@%#@%#@%#@%, they know how to tune, and they are very approachable.

(905)264 1989 is the number.

maybe i am just wasting my time thinking about it, but wouldnt a twin turbo 4g63 in my mighty max be real cool? has anybody ever seen or done a twin turbo setup? it seems fairly easy, and you can use two tdo5h turbos and probably get quite a bit of performance.........any thoughts?
thanks for the opinions.....
jeremy:confused:

It's so much easier with a big single. With two turbos, there's more chances for problems, boost leaks, etc. Plus, there's only 2 cylinders per turbo, so good luck finding turbos that'll spool quick and make power up top.

And good luck fitting all of that behind the fans.

There was some guy sellin a twin turbo setup for a 4g63 on ebay not to long ago, looked pretty nice i guess, think they were twin t-25's. :dsm:

I have bought 2 Garrett T25 turbos off 2g DSM's, that I am going to put on my 98 V6 Firebird. I've researched quite a bit but just can't seem to find that the stock boost of the 2g turbo DSM's were set at- so if anyone know's that I would appreciate it a ton.

I also have another question, I would like to set my turbos to run a minimum boost of 6PSI total, and have it adjustable up from there. I'm ~pretty sure that the stock settings are around 7-9 PSI, how would I go about lowering the boost cheaply without having to buy all new wastegates, ect.

Any help is appreciated.

Somebodies gotta know...

Some guy told me they were set at like 17psi stock and then I almost punched him >:)

honestly man it's impossible to say what the cars run for stock bost. It really varies. They are an internal wastegate and they're harder to tune for accurate boost levels then something like a nice external gate which you can set baseline boost by changing out a spring. I have no idea how you would go about changing that on an internal gate. As far as DSMs go, there isn't really a stock boost. I've heard of cars runing 8psi stock and others runing 14psi stock. It's really that broad. Hope all goes well for you.

to get the boost down to 8 psi, you will need to alter the rod length of the wastegate actuators. It will open at 10 or 11 psi if you do leave it stock. That is if you take the solenoids out of the loop, these will open it at 14 or so.

And if you are running stock internals on your 3.8, you will need to lower the boost or risk your engine.

Also, how are you going to supply extra fuel to your engine?? Maybe with a set of GTP injectors (supercharged 3.8)

Are you making your own exhaust manifolds, and other plumbing?

Best of luck, and if it works out, post results and pics, sounds interesting.

I always thought the V6 cars handled nicely, without that great lump up front. Do the springs, shocks, swaybars, a strut brace, and bigger brakes, and you will have a sweet sleeper !!

ps, check to see what kind of torque the tranny will handle(and the rear end/driveshaft etc)

I have a fuel pump on the way, stock injectors are good for 12 psi or so or at least that's what the other forced induction guys are doing.

The 3800 Series II Engine ways just barely less than the LS1, because the LS1 is an all aluminum block, so they both handle quite nicely.

My tranny is the same as used in all the Automatic Z28's, SS's, Trans Ams, Firehawks, ect, so I'm sure it will not be a problem until I'm into the 400 horsepower range, if that ever happens.

Then rear end MAY become an issue, in which case I will take care of that later :D

Thanks for the replies, appreciate it.

Will do, I don't really need much more as far as parts...

Have:
1 T25
Front mount intercooler
Bosch BOV
Gauge Pillar
Boost, EGT gauge
Fuel Pump
Trunk mount battery kit

Need:
Another T25
Possibly another intercooler, still debating if I want to use the one I have now (OEM 2G dsm)
Plugs, Wires
Oil/Feed Return Lines
Air Filters...
FMU

And obviously the plumbing supplies..

Thanks for the interest.

I have been investigating the same thing (boost levels on a T-25) and I just want to point out that you won't get much more than 16PSI of EFFICIANT boost from each turbo. If you have a manual boost controler you should be able to set the wastegate to open at any boost level you want.

You are also going to need custom exhaust manifolds, that will fit your heads, and the mitsu turbos.

Also, no problem with the boost, with the higher compression V6, 8-10psi is probably max. Stock n/a head gaskets, pistons, rods etc.

If my memory serves, Lingenfelter used two T25's on his first turbo C5 he did. I have no idea what he is using on the new 700HP+ beasts. He had them running only 7 psi and I think it put out 500-600 HP back then. He has much wilder versions now.

You realize this would put him at 32psi on stock internals? He is talking about 6psi total.
