So im overhauling my cars audio system since the one before was the most backyard, wires everywhere, messy, walmart sony xplode, system installation i have ever seen, and i notice i have the OEM Tweeters in the Dash, and in the Doors where the mirror triangle thing is AND in the back right above the normal 6x9's. Why the hell do i have 6 tweeters. The OEM setup came with just the Dash tweeter correct? I plan on removing the door and rear tweeters. Any advice from you audio gurus?

Did the po like tweety bird?

The stock setup has them in the grills of the dash up top. Back speakers were just 6x9s. If the tweeters were mounted nicely in the mirror triangles, I would reuse that location. If they were butchered up, I would stick with the stock location or possibly do them in the A-pillar, and get a new set of interior triangle pieces.

I agree, get rid of alll of the tweeters exept for the front, and choose the factory dash location, or the mirror triangle. Highs are very directional, which is just one of the reasons components are preferred in the front, so that you can mount the tweeters to fire the highs toward you. The factory location is intended to "bounce" the highs off the glass. Youll definitely get better quality highs using the mirror area location.

The speakers on the dash board are actually little 3 inch speakers, not factory tweeters. In my car I disconnected them and I bought Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 component speakers. I installed them about 6 years ago. My buddy and I located the crossover box in the door. There is room behind the door panel to mount it. We used a dremel tool and actually cut holes on the door panels for the tweeters. When installing a component system you want to try to keep the tweeter and mid bass speaker somewhat close to one another. I just have an aftermarket set of 6x9s in the rear. It is highly unnecessary to have tweeters in the rear. The location of the door tweeters is probably ok but if you reinstall different stuff, make the tweeters face your drivers seat. Who cares how well the stereo sounds in the other seats. The speakers in the dash are a waste of space. They fire up at the windshield which is why I disconnected mine. Just no need for them if you have quality door speakers.

^^^ Precisely!! Ive never understood the logic of mounting the tweeters (for components) on the a- pillar, as some people do- its too far away from the drivers! And in the back is just silly. When I buy a deck, I make sure its got front, rear, and sub outputs as well, cause I adjust the balance and fade until the sound is even and its like its coming from nowhere and everywhere at once. Course, it only sounds like this in the driver's seat, but thats the only seat that matters:p

Amen. I usually fade the sound more to the front than the rear anyways because as you drive the sounds travel from front to back. A buddy of mine doesn't believe in rear speakers because of this and he don't really care that passengers in the rear seats can or can't hear music. I keep my rear speakers just for the sake of having music fill the rear as well. I'm sure if I disconnected them it wouldn't take long to get used to the fronts but I figure I might as well keep them since I have them.

Not sure about that logic. The sound will travel relative to the air in the car, which will obviously move with the car. That said, you may have better speakers in the front, and it would make more sense to have more sound coming from there.

In any case, the sound shouldn't be drifting backwards as you drive. Even if it were, you shouldn't be driving fast enough for it to make a difference. Unless you're talking about a couple hundred miles per hour... :thumb:

Yeah, by the same logic, a fly wouldn't be able to fly around the cabin, or when you talk to a passenger, your words would be filling the hatch area.

Anyways, a lot of people just have component fronts and use just a woofer from a component set in the rear. It's all personal taste at that point. I may look into seeing if I can fit in a 6.5" JL W3V3 (6W3v3-4 - Car Audio - Subwoofer Drivers - W3v3 - JL Audio) in the rear locations instead of a regular mid range.

when i got my spyder it had tweeters on the door panel itself and looked like crap. :notgood:
