So after a PITA with a shop that i was supposedly friends with i finaly got my car back after 2.5 years, in pieces.:toobad:

So the problem is thus, the short block was supposed to contain a 2.3 stroker kit from eagle. After inspection it turns out that its is not a kit from eagle but contains a turned mitsubishi crank, eagle rods, and wiseco pistons.

All i know about the crank is that it has been turned (how much i dont know), that it is a mitsu crank, and the short block is 2.3 liters.

The Question i have is how realiable is it.

I am trying to turn this car from my once (wishingly) road rocket, to a normal daily driver i can depend upon, but still enjoy.

I have searched alot of places for information, and ive read alot of different answers ranging from turning the mitsu crank makes it a piece of junk, to that it will be just fine, to the nitriding process is not performed on the journals, to its just a scam to make you but a new crank.

The sources for this informations also range from regular people, to mitsu techs and crank grinders / remanufacturers, the techs actualy saying its fine.

So im here trying to clarify some of the information and take a vote.

The goal of the car is mainly reliability but also some what enjoyable, HP goals would be around 400 in the future.

I would appreciate if people left there imput on the situation as well and thanks for the time.

Just something i forgot to mention, i do have more invested into this car other than the short block, things such as the transmission and cylinder head.

Also if you have any other opinion other than the 3 listed feel free to share them.

I will say use it. Depending on how much it was turned. I would say that .010 is fine, but there´s people around running on .020 cranks and some more. I would plastigauge your crank which is cheap and easy to do. That would let you know, if the crank works. Good luck. :thumb:

PD: i´ve turned cranks before and im sure there´s a lot of people that have done it. I hope we are not talking about an 8 sec dsm here, otherwise you might look into other options.

Personally, my crank has been turned 0.010" haven't had any issues with it but of course I plastigaged it and made sure all tolerances were good. I have heard many people talk about our cranks being nitrite coated and that you are not supposed to turn them in fear of grinding off that special coating. However, I have also heard you can turn the crank but to have it nitrite coated after your finished. If anyone has more information about that please post.

I had mine turned .10 over with over 500km on a new rebuild and no problems yet ,I have a buddy that had his turned .30 over on his 351 with 200 shot of nitrous and didn,t hurt it .LOL
