Hey guys, I was wondering what exactly would I have to do to the car to turbo my 2.4L Spyder. I don't want to run alot of boost probably around 8-10psi. What would a good turbo be and what upgrades would have to be done to the engine? Thanks alot!:dsm:

It all depends on how much money you want to spend. It would be alot better to sell you car and buy a turbo eclipse.

But, if you really want to keep your car, then it would be best to talk to hahn racecraft about what you want to do.

You would need to upgrade your fuel system for one. IE. Fuel pump, fuel lines, Fuel Injectors, Fuel Pressure regulator and a good high flow low micron fuel filter.

For you exhaust you would need to change your exhaust manifold and the exhaust from the turbo back.

Now, One thing you may do is swap your N/T head to a turbo head. But, I could be wrong.

You will need some different pistons and maybe rods. Make sure you block is in great condition. You can to this by taking it to a machine shop to get blue printed (magna fluxed or partical inspection with a black light).

You will also need a fuel management system. I am not sure of the differences between the 2g ecu's but, you may need to get a stand-alone ecu (AEM EMS).

This all is something you need to think about. Before you start going crazy, figure out how much you want to spend and if it would be better to sell your car for a turbo eclipse.

Talk to Hahn Racecraft about turboing your car, esp since its a 2.4l.

The reason I am saying to upgrade all this stuff is because you want your car to last awhile when you go to turbo your car. Do not take any short cuts.

I know there will probably be many easy ways to put a turbo on your car and make it work but, you need to consider how reliable it will be.

Keep us posted.

You could possibly run 8-10psi on stock internals, but you'll definitely need some bigger injectors and at least a piggyback like an SAFC. The DOHC headswap would be a good upgrade, but not necessary. If you want to run a little more boost or have a little more safety margin you could swap in some 6 bolt rods and a set of lower compression weisco pistons. If you do the head swap, you must get lower compression pistons. The 4G63 head has less combustion chamber volume and you'll end up with something like an 11+:1 CR.

I think any of the 16G variants and an Evo3 exhaust mani would be pretty good for a ultra quick spooling turbo setup that could handle 8-10psi on your 4G64. If you plan to run more boost eventually or do the rods and pistons, I'd say at least get a 50 trim. I've heard even the 14b can get you to 300whp on a 4G64, but I'd expect it to run out of steam pretty quick in the upper rpms. The exhaust setup from the turbo to the tailpipe would be the same as a FWD turbo car, so you can use aftermarket GST exhaust parts. The intercooler and piping will be your choice, I'd recommend at least a stock turbo car type setup with the compressor outlet piped to in front of the passenger side wheel with a supra side-mount and stock routed intercooler to throttle body piping, CBV and CBV dump tube going back into the compressor intake after the MAS.

Yeah I don't think that setup will work. Thanks guys for the information, I am probably better off buying a turbo eclipse or worse comes to worse just live with the non-turbo :notgood: . I'll take a look at how much I plan on spending and how much it would actually cost, thanks again guys :dsm:

What did you end up doing? Because I see how have a Spyder...

It is actually not too bad. This is my first ever project on a car so a turbo was a big thing to start out with. I put a t3/t4 with all the supporting mods. I would shoot for 8psi. I am still working out last minute problems. But I will take it to MachV by the end of the month and hopefully get around 200hp.

^the best 4g64 turbo website ever. Curt is a great guy and has helped me with all my problems. There are a couple things that I don't agree with him. He put a stock gst/gsx turbo on, I thought the hybrid would be able to make more power and spool ok, it does. Also the way most people tap for the oil feed is to tap the oil pump, which is hard as crap. I bought a oil filter block which gives you two oil taps and you just screw it on before the oil filter. I did not put the turbo ecu in my car either, so I don't have a knock sensor or good timing maps. I am using the msd dis 2, we will see if it works well.

Other than that read as much as you get. I had a general knowledge of turbos but after reading on this website and curts I understood a lot more. It took me a year to read enough and build up all the parts. I am glad I wanted too, to find out everything. Buy good parts, you will only get out what you put in.

READ READ READ!!!

Good luck, ask me for any help I will do my best to help you.
