dammit, i feel ####ing stupid asking this but i have to. ok so i bought a turbo xs type h bov. i got it with the bov, the bronze looking piece, the nickel looking piece, and the washers. i am installing it on a stock 2g, to tell you truth, i dont know why bov's come with the two metal peices, one nickel i believe and the other looks like bronze. bu i was cheking them out and the washers only fit inside the bronze looking one and i had read that the washers are used so that the valve stays shut while your car is in idle. so i used the nickel piece, installed it, sounds nice. now the problem, my hood wont shut right. it seems as if the bov is too tall. it will shut if i force it, but its slightly tilted, WTF! how the hell do i fix this? someone please help my dumbass out!

TXS makes a 90* adapter to turn it side ways. You will either need this adapter or make your own.

EDIT: I would reccomend just selling it and getting something good. Once you get the bug, you will be going with a larger turbo and then a new bov that wont leak at higher boost levels. Might as well sell it now since it is new and getting at least a greddy type s. Trust me, Ive been there and done that. I now run a tial bov which I am very happy with.

Hey I used to have that same BOV so I know whats going on.

Those washers are used to adjust the spring tension on your BOV. Put 3 washers in there AFTER yyou plug it back into the intake let your car idle. If it still bounces aroud then put 4, but 3 should be fine.

There is also a 90degree adaptor with that BOV you'll need to get from TurboXS. This will let your hood close.

That BOV leaks at idle, simple as that. I tested it many times including a boost leak test and it just lets air out at an alarming rate. Honestly, if you can still return it do so for the better BOV's out there. That H34 is just a POS, or any TurboXS for that matter.

But if you have to keep it, make sure you recirculate it. Happy tuning. :thumb:

i see. this helps a lot. is it really important to recirculate the bov? or is it possible to just leave it be? what can happen if i dont recirculate it? you said to put in 3-4 washers, how would i be able to tell if it would need a fourth washer? so since i need to add washers, how and where do i add them from? you said to let the car idle after you plug everything up, when i installed it i didnt hear the bov "bouncing" around or anything wierd even when i reved it to test it, or maybe im not listening for the right things at the right time? thanx

It's important to recirculate the BOV to keep your ECU calculated airflow the same as what you're actually getting. Everytime you lay off under boost, that airflow that is shot into the atmosphere is already accounted for through the MAS, so you run pig-rich for that second or so, and essentially bog down. Add into the fact that you have a BOV that is notorious for leaking at idle only makes things worse. Again, my advice is return it while you still can.

If you keep it, here's how to calibrate it. Start with three washers. The BOV literally unscrews apart and you add the washers in there, then screw it back together. Start with 3. Get under boost (hi and low boost) and let off the throttle. If you hear a fluttering noise, go back to two. If not, add the 4th washer. Go as high as you can without ever hearing that flutter. Mine was 4 washers, but it depends on your boost level.

If you really want to see why it's so bad to not recirculate, leave all the washers out and go for a drive. Floor it to max boost and then push in the clutch and let off the gas. Your car will either die or almost die. That's because you're running so rich. Adding more washers makes it less bad, but it's still bad for your car, and not worth the "whoosh" sound

i see... thanx a lot. well im only running stock boost for now, but i have a mbc on my hands. i was reading on how to install it and it seemed pretty simple just some cutting to do. i dont think i can turn up the boost though, considering im all stock, except for a kn intake filter. well, my future plans are to sell the car and get a better one anyways, but i really appreaciat what your telling about thi bov and such, thanx a lot. so would you say that ill most likely need 3 washers and leave the boost stock with the mbc or would you say 2 or 4 washers and turn the boost up a little bit or leave it stock? im guessin you know how to install a mbc, so if i have any questions ill be sure to ask, thanx! :thumb:
ps- were can i get that adapter so it can turn the bov sideways, i was looking on turboxs.com but couldnt find it there. i was also reading that this bov was for open atmosphere only, is this true?

OOPS!

I just checked out TurboXS's website and the Type H and TypeH34 are different. I used to have the H34 which allowed you to recirculate. You have the Type H and that one CANNOT be recirculated, therefore you will be hurting your car no matter what you do with that BOV.

If you absolutely can't afford to swap another one, pack in as many washers as you can without hearing that fluttering sound under mid to high boost. That will lessen the problem, but you're still gonna leak at idle and under boost.

no, it's more of a TurboXS problem. If you take it apart they actually expect metal to metal to be a good enough seal for air, and it just doesn't work. Recirculating is better though.

well crunchymilk, LOL, thanx for letting me know some new info. i got some questions about the mbc install, can you help me out?

sure no problem

It's a really easy install, PM me for more info, but the VFAQ process is just about perfect. I tapped into the BOV source, but that's for different reasons.

PM me for more info ( trying to keep thread on topic for future searches.)

I ordered the H34, and i read in some places people didn't need an adapter, how is this possible? and if i do need one, how can i make my own? Out of a few pipe fittings??? And how much does a adapter cost from a website.

With the included adapter, it will physically fit your stock piping but the hood wont close. In order for it to fit properly, you will have to nuy the 90* adapter from turbo xs. If you are using an uicp with a 1g flange, you would either have to make your own flange or purchase the kit from turbo xs. I actually made a flange adapter for vaboys2ndgen but his brode uicp was flanged for a 1g bov.

the car isn't using anything special, its a bone stock 98 GST Spyder, ive heard of people making 90 degree adapters, how might i go about doing this, but yet again ive heard of people not needing an adapter?
