i would drain it, that way your new gasket isnt getting all messy while trying to install it and the line back onto the oil pan
 
I would do it next oil change. But if you want to swap it, just put your car up on ramps, or jack up the front end. That way you won't have to drain all of the oil.

Also, when replacing that gasket, use a THIN layer of gasket sealer and some medium strength blue locktite to help it seal. If you use too much gasket sealer you will clog your return line.

The gasket part number is: MR258477
 
If the oil is new and you don't want to waste it, clean up the oil pan bottom and around the drain plug really well, drain the oil into a clean container, fix the gasket, then put the oil back in.
 
Or you can be an idiot like me and jack up the front of the car, remove the drain fitting, then lower the car while you go eat lunch and have your oil all over the garage floor when you come back out.ROFL ROFL
 
Instead of using blue locktite go to the dealer and get the 6mm crush washers that go on the bolts that thread into the oil pan. They are not reusable and the keep the oil from leaking past the threads. Also Permatex makes a hightack spray gasket that is really good for spraying on gaskets for a better seal and it's alot easier to apply that RTV.
 
I have heard of oil seaping through the threads even with the crush washers. I would still use the blue locktite.
 
I couldn't get it to seal with anything but the crush washers. I'd definately go pick some up. I ended up using those and high temp thread sealant, no leaks anymore.:thumb:
 
Ive had the same problem many many times, so i bought the mitsu gaskets... they still leaked so i resorted to this :

I've considered doing that for some other leaks. Ever fix an oil pan gasket leak by just caulking around the pan with it still on the car?:tease: Or maybe hot glue on my leaking oil pressure sender.
 
When I search for Mitsu part number MR258477 as said earlier in the thread, there are three options. Right side return tube gasket, Left side return tube gasket and GASKET,T/C OIL RE

Mine looks just like that except I used red RTV. :) This is after trying with 2 oem gaskets stacked together. Nice work.

It was recommended to me by one of our well known sponsor years ago and it did work for a week, when the leak returned, it was not as bad as the original leak. :p
