I have a leak somewhere around the turbo, and some ppl said it might be the o-ring, what exactly is the o-ring, and would it come with the turbo gasket kit you can buy the pack at the dealer??

The O-ring is a rubber seal that fits between the compressor housing and the center section. It most likely won't come in the gasket kit from the dealer, since it's actually part of the internal turbo design, not a gasket that you would replace often, such as a manifold-turbo gasket or a turbo-O2 housing gasket.

Did you do a boost leak test with soapy water to pinpoint exactly where you're leaking? Have you taken the compressor housing off in the past? In some cases, people have put the snap ring back on upside down and it hasn't seated correctly, or they have shifted and torn the O-ring in the process of reseating the compressor housing. What turbo is it for? The reason I ask is that the O-ring from my dead T25 is still good and if you find that yours is torn or damaged, I'll just mail it to you.

what is it leaking water or oil, and where from? feed or return lines

not sure whether your talking about an internal leak or something on the outside of the center section

It's almost appalling how many random things I have pictures of.

Pay no attention to the horrible destruction formerly known as a compressor wheel and turbine wheel in the above pic.

Edit: While I was rooting around for pics of the O-ring you posted that and I realized I automatically assumed the original poster meant a boost leak. Thanks for catching that.

SccrAdidas, could you be more specific about the leak in question?

he is talking about a boost leak. i didnt know the snap ring could go be upside down. that might be the problem on my 16g. How do you tell which way it should go?

One side of the snap ring is beveled. This is going to be hard to explain, so bear with me and if you need a pic, I can get one.

The flat edge of the snap ring "faces" towards the intake side of the turbo and makes contact flushly with the center section. The beveled edge "faces" towards the center section, however, it makes contact flushly with the inner edge of the compressor housing rim. This is how the compressor housing is kept on.

I will warn you: The snap ring is VERY strong. You will need a good set of snap ring pliers to get it off, and once you do, be extremely careful that it doesn't spring off the pliers, because it's strong enough to inflict a bit of pain. My uncle broke two tips off his Snap On snap ring pliers trying to get it off. Luckily he doesn't use them very much, or I'd have paid him back for them.

I have tried 3 different sets of so called "heavy duty" snap ring plier before I modified a "heavy duty" 90* needle nose plier to a perfect fit which I call the "turbo snap ring plier". :)
