420a Turbo kit 95-99 Eclipse Talon - TREADSTONE PERFORMANCE

so what do you think about this turbo kit? this is the one that im leaning towards for my eclipse. worth the money?

It's a good proven kit. Alot of people have it. IIRC it doesn't include anything for the fuel system; which is nice in some cases because you get to choose exactly what fuel setup you want.
You should do some searching there is a ton of information on turboing the 420a; disscussion of which kit is best, whether you should build your own kit, etc.

is fuel injectors and fuel pump all you need to install a turbo? do you have to install a different computer to get the correct fuel octane delivery ect.? what else do you actually need to have the turbo run right? i have a big 16g turbo kit (or so thats what i was told it is). any advice is great! thanx alot!

injectors and a fuel pump is only a start. You also need a way to conrol those injectors. ie afc. Then you might want to also think about a fuel pressure regulator. Then you get to think about how you plan on tuning all this stuff. An idea would be to purchase a wide band o2 kit. However it sounds like you may want to have someone tune the car when everything is installed.

The 420a is a different animal, ed.

A fuel pump is mandatory - injectors are not - an AFPR will depend on what route you take for fuel control - an AFC won't be useful during boost.



The most basic is to use a 12:1 FMU with stock injectors.

A step up would be using a SFMU, with which you are able to use slightly larger injectors. This gives you a little bit of adjustability.

Using a PortFueler with a 1:1 FPR, and a second set of injectors is another, more tunable, powerful, and expensive option.

Then the cream of the crop fuel system would be to use a MegaSquirt with upwards of 1000cc injectors and a 1:1 AFPR. This is a little bit more tricky, and can involve changing out a couple of sensors to be more compatible with the MS.


There are, of course, many other option out there. These are the most popular, and you will get the best support from us here by using one of these methods.

A FCD or ML is usually required anytime the factory ECU is still in the loop, and (even though I mentioned it already) an upgraded fuel pump will be necessary with with any route. Going beyond a simple FMU, a WBo2 will be highly recommended, if not required.

Skip all the FMU crap and anythng that "tricks" the car into fueling right under WOT.. usuallye those things only work in one area of the tune and depend on closed loop or deal with some stumbling in order to get by with them. You can get a set of injectors from a junkyard 3.8 supercharged engine cheap. they are 36lb/hr from what i read when looking them up on the parts exchange at the yard.

Tehn gut a decent fuel pump and the megasquirt.. it's so affordable that by the time you got a 21:1 FMU, an SAFC and spent hours in headaches and tons of money on other little crap to trick teh ECU into nto seeing boost and what not tht you could have just gotten the MS (megasquirt) a long time ago.

The other ways work, but by the time you tried them, got tired of soemthign with them and then went megasquirt, just think of ho much money you wasted that could have went to a built motor or better components for the intake exhaust.
They are 400 assembled, you can build em for less than 200 dollars, but just buy one, they work when they show up that way

There's really not much to adjust or fuss over with just an FMU. For a basic setup, you really can't beat the cost and simplicity of an FMU. Beyond that, I'm all for Megasquirt.

This is the 420a Turbo section. If you're talking about your 97 GST, then injectors, 190lph fuel pump, a datalogger, and a SAFC will be a decent starting point.
